The Messenger of St. Mark's | After Pentecost | Nov. 1, 2024

For your thought:

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples

a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines,

of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear.

And he will destroy on this mountain

the shroud that is cast over all peoples,

the sheet that is spread over all nations;

he will swallow up death forever.

Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces,

and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth,

for the Lord has spoken.

--Isaiah 25: 6-8

ST. MARK'S MISSION, MINISTRY & OUTREACH

Parade of Saints

All youth are invited to participate in the Parade of Saints at the 9:30 Eucharist THIS Sunday, November 3.

During the annual Litany of the Saints, all youth (infant through high school) are invited to carry a saint placard (provided by St. Mark’s) in the Parade of Saints. The parade walks around the Nave a couple of times while Fr. Christopher and Mother Sylvia chant the litany. This is a very special part of the life of our church and faith – young people honoring faithful followers of God from our history.

The Parade of Saints/Litany happens at the very beginning of the service – right at 9:30. If you would like to participate, please arrive a few minutes before the service starts – about 9:25. (Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday. Remember to set your clock BACK an hour on Saturday night.)

Families are encouraged to walk in the parade together. That will make it possible for our youngest members who may not be able to walk and/or carry a placard to participate.

If you have any questions, please contact Deacon David.

Monthly Parenting Group - Nov. 2

playground

Parenting brings unique challenges at every stage. If you are doing the work of “parenting” a child of any age, or if you are simply eager to listen with curiosity and compassion to support others who are doing this important work, please join us for our second Monthly Parenting Group, Saturday November 2 at 9am at St. Mark's.

There will be a supervised playdate available for younger kids on the St. Mark's playground (weather permitting) or in the downstairs youth choir room (if the weather is crummy.) while parents meet for discussion in the library.

We will continue our discussion on Baptism, and provide an opportunity for parents who may be curious about exploring the possibility of baptism for their child to come and learn more.

Even if your own kids are already baptized, this is an important opportunity for you to draw alongside other parents and provide encouragement , support, and community as they discern the right next steps in their own family's spiritual journey.

If you are the parent of teen or young adult kids, your participation is especially valuable--as newer parents often crave the support of "mentor parents" who have walked this road ahead of them. Please join us. And please help spread the word to any other parents/families you think might be interested.

Upcoming Parenting Group Dates: 12/7, 1/11, 2/1, 3/8, 4/5, 5/3

The Difference Course

Sundays, 6-8pm (Mountain Time) on Zoom

6 Sessions: November 10-December 15

(“Reunion” Session on January 12th)

We live in a complicated and messy world where there is fracture, division and conflict. We see it when we look around us - and when we look within us. Many of us long to make a difference, but often we don't know how to respond or where to start.

The Difference Course teaches three habits that have the potential to transform everyday relationships:

  • Be Curious: Listening to others’ stories and seeing the world through their eyes.
  • Be Present: Showing up and sticking around, learning to encounter others with authenticity.
  • Reimagine: Finding hope and opportunity in the places where we long to see change.

Together we’ll explore and develop habits that help us Hear God’s Call, Cross Divides, Navigate Disagreement, Practice Forgiveness, and Risk Hope.

Registration is required, and consistent attendance is encouraged.

Click here to register for the Difference Course.

(Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants prior to Session 1)

The Investiture of Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe

Nov. 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET, with a prelude featuring a “roll call” of dioceses. The service itself starts at 11 a.m. ET.

In this historic and joyful season, we invite you to pray for guidance for our church and our new presiding bishop, Sean Rowe as he leads us in envisioning the reign of God in our midst. May our celebration unite us as a sacramental community, and may we be filled with new energy to bear witness to God’s work of redemption. The service will be livestreamed on the Episcopal Church's Investiture page and on The Episcopal Church’s Facebook page. A recording will be posted and distributed after the service.

We continue to pray for the community of Roswell and the surrounding areas in SE New Mexico after the heavy rains and catastrophic flooding last Saturday night and Sunday morning. If you would like to donate to the Diocesan Disaster Response effort, here is the link, with the first option for disaster relief.
