For your thought:
So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me."

SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH
|
|
This Sunday: All Saints' Ofrenda
|
|
To celebrate The Feast of All Saints at St. Mark’s each year, we build an ofrenda.
Traditionally, an ofrenda (“offering,” in Spanish) was put together around the Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos) in Latin cultures to welcome those who have died back into your life. Photographs, mementos, and favorite foods were offered to entice loved ones to return.
In our Christian tradition, we make an ofrenda to celebrate and honor the lives of the saints who have traveled this journey before us – loved ones who have helped build the foundation of our spiritual lives and showed us how to be faithful servants of God.
We invite you to participate in this beautiful tradition. Please bring photos of your loved ones who have died: people who made a difference in your lives, from whom you learned unconditional love, who were instrumental in making you the person you are today.
For in-person ofrenda submissions, framed photos, which can stand on their own, work best, but all photos are welcome. We would also encourage everyone bringing in photos or frames to have the name of the departed and the name of the individual who it should be returned to on the back (a small piece of tape or something of that nature works well). If you would like to drop them off at the church during this week, place them in the basket in the narthex and we can put them on the ofrenda for you. You are also welcome to bring photos anytime until and on Sunday, November 7th.
The ofrenda will remain in place through our All Saints’ Day Celebration on Sunday, November 7. After that service you may take your photos home.
We hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate the lives of loved ones.

Help Wanted: Christmas Pageant Filming & Advent Extravaganza
|
|
Saturday, November 27th, 9AM-2PM
St. Mark's is inviting our friends and members, (young and old) to participate in creating a (pre-recorded) Christmas Pageant again this year! We will be filming St. Mark's 2021 Christmas Pageant during our "Advent Extravaganza" at St. Mark's on Saturday, November 27th from 9AM-2PM.
When you're not busy filming a scene, you're invited to pitch in to help bundle greens for Advent Wreaths, help the Youth Group paint an LGBTQ+ Welcoming Rainbow fence, and do whatever else is needed to prepare for Advent...all while enjoying good snacks and good friends!
Please mark your calendars and invite family and friends to join you (in person AND online) for St. Mark's 2021 Pageant Party & World Premiere, the evening Sunday, December 19th!
We need lots of help to make this happen! We'll need help supervising snacks & hospitality; playground; greens bundling; fence painting and costuming! We'll need help recording music, readings, and narration! We'll need help staging and shooting some photos and short scenes! And, OF COURSE, we'll need people of all ages who are willing to put on a costume and bring the Nativity Story to LIFE! (Since we are recording narration separately, there will be no need for any of our pageant players to learn or memorize lines!)
Please sign up here ASAP to let us know your availability and interest in helping out with this year's Advent Extravaganza and Christmas Pageant Filming Party a success!

Tending to Our Hearts Amidst Our Grief
|
|
Sunday, November 14, 11:30AM-1PM (Please note date change)
(Facilitator: Donnel Miller-Mutia, Hospital Chaplain & former Hospice Grief Support)
As the seasons change and trees lose their leaves, as the autumn days darken and the winter holidays approach, our personal and communal experiences of grief, loss, and change often rise to the surface. As we encounter life's major transitions and thresholds, let us gather for an hour and a half and mark our journey of healing through stories, art, poems, prayer and songs. Contact Donnel with questions and to RSVP (via email here).

Beloved of God,
Maren and I want to thank you for your generous gift and wonderful celebration on the occasion of my 10th anniversary of service at St. Mark’s as your rector. What a blessing the community of St. Mark’s has been in our lives and the lives of our children over the past 10 years. We are so grateful to be a part of this warm and vital community. Looking back, we are so thankful that we heard God’s call to St. Mark’s and decided to take the risk of helping to rebuild a wonderful community in the heart of the University district and Nob Hill. It has been and continues to be such a rich experience of community that words cannot express our gratitude.
We look forward to many years ahead as we continue to Build Something Beautiful for God in this Neighborhood.
With great affection,
Maren and Christopher McLaren
