SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH
Bishop Michael Hunn in response to TX Governor Greg Abbott's Announcement Last Week Re: Transgender Youth
"As the Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Far West Texas, I want to make it clear that Governor of Texas Greg Abbott’s recent attempt to criminalize the process of people becoming their true selves cannot be justified on the ground of our Christian faith, or on the ground of human rights." --Bp. Hunn, 2/25/2022

DRG Lenten Vocations Course
Join Mother Sylvia, Deacon David, and other members of the Episcopal Church throughout the Diocese of the Rio Grande for a Lenten Vocations Course

Thursday evenings, 6:00-7:30PM (Mountain Time): 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31

Our annual Diocesan Discernment Cycle begins each Lent with an Introductory "Vocations 101" course. This course/online retreat is open to any and all lay people, deacons, and priests in the DRG and beyond. Each session includes time for prayer, a brief topical presentation, and small group sharing. In this introductory course/online retreat we explore our basic understanding of Christian Vocation in the Episcopal Church. Over the course of five 90-minute sessions, we explore how the particular vows made in three different services from our Book of Common Prayer: the services of Holy Baptism, the Ordination of a Deacon, and the Ordination of a Priest, can shed light on particular aspects of the shared vocation of all Christians, and help us begin to see our own unique vocations, as individual members of Christ’s Body, more clearly.

Note: This course is for all people (at every stage of life and in every order of ministry) who feel called to deepen their relationship with God and their vocation in the church and in the world. It is also the "starting place" for individuals who may be sensing a call towards ordained ministry in the Diocese of the Rio Grande and wish to enter into a formal process of discernment.

Questions: Please contact Mother Sylvia via email here.

DIOCESE & BEYOND
What’s New at ABQ FaithWorks?
  • Food Distribution. Last week, 21 asylum-seeking families resident in Albuquerque received a food distribution, as they can every three weeks, partially provided by Casa San Miguel, the food pantry at member congregation St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal.
  • Afghan Support. FaithWorks is strengthening its partnership with Lutheran Family Services to support Afghans moving into our community. The learning cultural learning curve is less steep through connections we’ve made with the Afghan Society in Albuquerque.
  • Clothing Distribution. As FaithWorks staff move to a new office this week, clothing previously distributed from First Congregational is going to the program at member congregation St. Andrew Presbyterian. Children’s clothing is going to the Downtown Community School Collaborative and Highland High School.
  • A Homeless Man is Housed. Read about getting someone into housing after two years. It can be done! https://www.abqfaithworks.org/blog

DRG Women's Ministry Lent Retreat
The DRG Women's Ministry Lent Retreat will be hybrid on March 26 from 8:30AM-3PM. We'll be at St. Luke's, La Union, NM and on Zoom. Women in the 'south' are esp. encouraged to attend in-person and invite a friend. There are hotels in Las Cruces and El Paso for those who travel from other parts of the Diocese. Sunday services are at 9:30 for anyone who wants to stay over and join in.
The Rev. Patty Soukup will be our speaker. She will focus on ways women are uniquely qualified to share wisdom with each other with reference to Richard Rohr's book Falling Upward. She'll also talk about details (like wills, etc.) that can distract us. Taking care of these bits and pieces frees us to be leaders and wise women of faith.

The event is open to women in the Diocese of the Rio Grande and friends anywhere Zoom might reach.

Registration ($25 in-person and $10 for Zoom attendance) is available on the Women's Ministry website. Fees cover supplies (including Zoom license), lunch, and honorarium. Contact Cindy with questions.
Email submissions should be sent (via email) to the Communications Specialist by 11:00 a.m. each Tuesday for inclusion on Thursday's e-news. Please see submission guidelines here.
