Summer of Conversation Kickoff
Sunday, May 28th at 11:15 in the Parish Hall
Starting after worship on the Feast of Pentecost (May 28th), we are setting out to train a group of adventurous members of St. Mark's, then have them commit to an initiative called, "The Summer of Conversation." It is a simple, but radical idea: to meet with members and newcomers and those whom we don't know well, to listen, to ask questions, and become lovingly curious about each other's lives. The hope is that together we will discover where God is at work in our lives and in the community of St. Mark's. All are welcome and encouraged to come to the training session during formation hour on Sunday, May 28th.

Sunday is Pentecost: Wear Red! | |

We encourage everyone to wear red on Sunday, as it's the liturgical color of Pentecost (all may; none must).

Beginning on Sunday, June 11th, the choir will be on summer break from midweek rehearsals. Each Sunday from June 11th until mid-August a "summer choir" will gather at 8:45 a.m. to prepare to lead the music for each Sunday service. Everyone is welcome to join in the summer choir, whether or not you sing in the choir during the rest of the year. Please join us! Questions? Contact our Choir Director, Jeremy, via email here.

Only a week left to purchase that piece of artwork you have had your eye on in the Parish Hall. Our current show comes down on June 3. If you have already purchased a piece, you may pick it up this Sunday. And be sure and stop by the library to view Allen Lowery's One-Person Show, which will hang through July.

The suggested donation for weekly altar flowers is $70, which covers the full cost of a large arrangement. We will gratefully accept any amount in honor or in remembrance of your loved one. Please use a giving envelope in the pew to return the form along with your payment selection OR by PayPal® (be sure to select "Altar Flowers" from the dropdown and to let us know what for in the memo field). Dedications and donations are due one week before your requested date in order to appear in the Order of Worship. You may also call our office at 505-262-2484 during business hours (M-Th, 9-2) to place a donation/dedication for Altar flowers.

Summer Small Group: Sunday Evenings with “The Chosen” | |

“The Chosen” is a crowd-funded TV series on the life of Jesus and his followers. St. Mark’s will show the first four episodes followed by a short discussion on Sundays in June from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cecil B. Fish Courtyard or the Library (weather-determined). Bring a snack or dessert to share (optional). For information on the series, you may find the trailer on YouTube here. Building Renewal Committee Update (5/25) | |

An overarching truth in life is that learning together forms powerful, indelible bonds. At St. Mark’s, learning together is a hallmark of our lives in community and food for our personal growth. For us on the Building Renewal Committee, we have had -- and still face -- much to learn in a context that is different from our professional work and personal vocations. Think about learning who each of us is on the Committee; how we can best serve our congregation staying true to our purposes; where we’ll need courage to do right in the face of being popular; and how to attain a spiritual foundation while maintaining equilibrium amid competing goods and attractive alternatives.
Our report is that we are staying true to the course, being faithful in learning and listening and sharing in order to “Build Something Beautiful.” Most recently, we met with two principals from a local architectural firm who have demonstrable experiences that suit us in many ways. We know we’ll have to kiss more frogs to find our princes and princesses, learning from every interview, and keeping our relationship open with several firms. Technical expertise is important, but loving our projects is bedrock fundamental. We want to know how the right firm will make us proud!
Last Sunday, as we celebrated our graduates, we saw learners transformed into leaders, and could appreciate fears and joys associated with their learning undergirded by the hope that we share for their futures. Our work in Committee faces fears and joys, too, as we grow ever stronger bonds among ourselves and within our Community. Keep us in mind and in your hearts as we advance our work for all.

Albuquerque Public Library Donations: Due by 5/28 | |

The International District Public Library recently sent St. Mark’s a lovely Thank You note for the items we collected in March. As a reminder, this new library building opened last July, and many of the area’s unhoused utilize the library to get out of the weather, relax, read books and magazines, use the computers, charge their cellphones, and use the public restrooms. The library has no more storage for clothing/hygiene items but let us know that they could use the following: bottled water, individual-sized powdered drink mixes (like Gatorade singles) and small snacks like granola bars. Donated items can be dropped off in the box in the church entrance by May 28th. Feel free to reach out to Dawn Adkins (via email here) with questions.

NM Immigrant Law Center & ABQ FaithWorks
Asylum Application and Work Permit Clinic

Friday, June 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - St. Mark’s will again host the NM Immigrant Law Center and Albuquerque FaithWorks for an Asylum Application and Work Permit Clinic. A few St. Mark’s volunteers are needed throughout the day in either 2- to 4- hour shifts for greeting guests, providing basic and administrative assistance (copies & answering questions), and to provide food for both volunteers and clients. Bilingual volunteers may contact NMILC directly for training information at (505) 247-1023.
