Theme: "Easter Joy"
"Joy" is a word present throughout scripture, especially in the Psalms and Christian scripture. But what is joy? It is not happiness and is often set alongside pain and suffering. Psalm 30, vs 6 says "Weeping may spend the night, but joy comes in the morning." And the Epistle of James 1:2a says "My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy . . ." This morning will be devoted to joy - exploring, meditating and sitting in silence with it.

We are sad to report that the Montessori school plant sale that was scheduled for May 10-14th has been canceled due to a problem with the soil used in growing the seedlings.

Building Renewal Committee’s Weekly Report (5/5) | |
|
Our time with Robert Habiger -- either in our Committee Meetings or in his General Forums on Sunday – has occasioned serious and joyful learning. The final session this Sunday is another opportunity for us all to learn together, and will be specifically helpful to inform the interviews we have scheduled with Architects over the next three weeks. Without Robert’s teachings and experience we would be hard pressed to understand fully enough what we hope to accomplish and why.
Enlightenment philosopher Immanuel Kant expressed a variation of our condition in what we hope for in a worthy architect:
“Two things fill the mind with ever increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we reflect upon them: the starry heavens above me and the moral laws within me.”
Our individual and corporate senses of the beautiful we hope to build encompass awe and wonder as well as the time and space for liturgy, learning, and community. As we all pay attention to this process, we share a clearer vision of “preparing our rooms” for St. Mark’s today and tomorrow. The Building Renewal Committee hopes to see you Sunday during Adult Forum (11:15 a.m.) as we stick our heads in the starry heavens and envision the best fit architect to lead us forward together.

Photo Directory Updates - May 14th | |

Sunday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m.
After worship on Sunday, May 14th, we'll be making an effort to update our online St. Mark's photo directory. If you already have access and don't know how to update your info, this will be your opportunity! We'll have staff on hand to help update your family's information, as well as photographers to take a photo of you and your family (keep that in mind for dressing that Sunday morning). There's a lot of empty photos next to member information in our directory and we're hoping to remedy that some this weekend. This is part of an ongoing effort to maintain our directory, as well as to help St. Mark's continue to be a thriving, relational congregation.

Missing in Action! We are so grateful to all those who take tablecloths home to launder (thank you!), but we are missing a few of the round polyester ones. If you have been thinking that one you took home needs ironing, just bring it back and Heather Gaume, our Thursday front-desk volunteer, will iron them when she needs a bit more to do. Thank you so much for your help!

Save the Dates: All-Parish Campout | |

July 28-30th
The all-parish campout is returning after four years! We will camp at the Ponderosa Group Campground. The campground is 6 miles west of Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos, NM. Click here to see the campground. This is a tent-only campground with a covered cooking shelter, pit toilets and drinking water. The plan is to gather there on Friday night, hike on Saturday (optional), enjoy a potluck meal on Saturday evening (bring your own main dish & a side to share) and Sunday morning Eucharist before we pack up and head back.
All ages are welcome! Come for both nights, one night, for the hike, and/or for Sunday Eucharist. If you have any questions, please contact the Sinkulars via email here.

Border Ministry Needs Our Help | |

Several St. Mark's parishioners are involved with the Border Ministry going to El Paso once a month with several carloads of supplies and clothes that four shelters request. Please see the attached report.
With that in mind, can you help us fill this “always needs” list from the Annunciation House shelters in El Paso? Our next trip to the Annunciation House shelters is May 11th. Please have all donations dropped off by Sunday, May 7th.Please understand that because of limited storage space in our vehicles and the shelters, these are the only items that we can accept:
- Athletic pants, men, small, medium
- Leggings, women’s small and medium
- Men’s boxers, new, small & medium
- Women’s briefs, new, small & medium
- Ankle socks, new, men or women’s
- Large Body Wash
- Large shampoo
- Laundry soap, liquid
- Backpacks, gently used

Youth Vocal Recital at St. Mark's | |

Spring Recital featuring The Sound of Music!
Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary
This recital features singers aged 8 and up, singing excerpts and scenes from the Sound of Music, and others.
There will be a reception following in the Parish Hall and Cecil B. Fish Courtyard.
All are welcome! (Cookies are always welcomed, too).

UNM's Keller Hall Vocal Performance | |

There is a recital coming up in UNM's Keller Hall, The Temptation of Song. It is kind of an introduction to the Love of Art Song. It is a short concert with a tasting of song!
Mezzo Soprano Jacqueline Zander-Wall and Pianist James Harder Song Recital reviewing the fourteen years of the Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival Event to Invite the public into the beauty and inspiration of Song. Works by Rossini, Colibran, Viardot, Mahler, Harbison, and Villa Lobos.
It is on May 25, at 7 p.m. in Keller Hall at UNM.
