For your thought:
The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city how much Jesus had done for him.
-- Luke 8:38-39

Summer Rosary for Resurrection & Remembrance
Monday, June 20, 7PM
In person at St. Mark's and on Zoom
Zoom Link, Meeting ID: 505 262 2484, Passcode: Tonya
As we move through seasons in the natural world, so too we move through seasons of grief. As we move through each season, different memories may bubble up, and our grief might take on a variety of different qualities. In each season prayer, remembrance, and community are essential sources of support for our journey. We invite you to join us for our Summer Rosary for Remembrance this coming Monday, June 20th at 7PM Mountain time, in person at St. Mark's or online via Zoom, for a quiet time of prayer, silence, poetry, and song in honor of all the departed. These gatherings are open to all, and we warmly welcome you, along with any other family members who might be interested, to join us.

Summer Happenings at St. Mark's
|
|
Summer Choir
This summer, we will continue to have a choir at each Sunday service. We will not have midweek rehearsals, but will instead gather on Sundays at 8:50 a.m. to prepare the music for that week's service. The music will be simple enough to learn in about 30 minutes and we will not wear robes. The summer choir will be a fun and low-commitment way to try out singing in the choir if you have ever considered joining. To join, just show up in the choir loft on any Sunday at 8:50 a.m.
Nursery Care & Playground Supervision
Since we don't presently have any families with young children utilizing nursery care during worship at St. Mark's at this time, for the summer months we will be shifting the nursery care workers schedule to provide nursery care and playground supervision on Summer Sundays from 10:30-12:30PM, enabling families to worship together, and parents and older siblings to use the time following worship for fellowship and "Summer of Conversation" activities and Conversations.
Summer of Conversation
During the summer, we encourage teens, adults, and school-aged kids to utilize the "Sunday School Hour" (~11:15AM-12:15PM) to participate in our Summer of Conversation through Conversation Cafes, and one-on-one conversations. On most summer Sundays, Deacon David or I will facilitate conversation & storytelling activities for Elementary & Middle School Aged youth in the library during this hour. If you're new to St. Mark's Summer of Conversation, please be sure seek out a clergy member to help get you started.
Parish Pool Party, Sunday August 14
Save the date for a Back-to-School-Parish-Pool Party & BBQ/Potluck Supper on Sunday, August 14th at the Tennis Club of Albuquerque. (At Indian School and Girard).

Thursday Eucharist: St. Mark’s Summer of Preaching Festival
|
|
Did you know that every Thursday St. Mark’s has a mid-week 11AM Holy Eucharist?
This summer we have invited our retired clergy to offer sermons at our Thursday Eucharist. Our full-time staff members will be preaching during the summer some as well.
Consider it a kind of Summer Preaching Festival featuring: Rev. Rhonda McIntire, Rev. Neil Elliott, Rev. Michael Jupin, Rev. Rob Clark, Rev. Jim Porter and Rev. Billie Abraham. Thursday sermons often reflect on the life of a saint in our Holy Women, Holy Men calendar or on the readings for that day. We are looking forward to hearing some new voices in the pulpit and to building up this midweeks service. St. Mark’s Thursday 11AM Eucharist is a very accessible service, slightly more casual, includes a coffee hour afterwards, and is followed by an amazing small group Bible Study on the Beatitudes. It’s is also a great Eucharist to attend if you know that you might be out of town on Sunday. For the contemplative among us or those seeking quiet, there is also a 30-minute meditative sit in the Stoney Chapel at 10:30 (Enter by Stoney Chapel door in east parking lot) prior to the 11 AM Eucharist.
Hope to see you there.

Gun Violence – Pray, Question, ACT!
|
|
As I was reflecting on Deacon David’s recent sermon, I remembered reading Jolene Gutierrez Krueger’s UpFront column in the Albuquerque Journal. She described the Guns to Gardens National Buyback Day coming up on June 11. You can read her article here: Turn Your Guns into Plowshares.
Gun buybacks directly remove weapons from our local community. They are purely voluntary and don’t infringe on anyone’s 2nd amendment rights or require legislation. Of course, legislation is essential to solving this problem, and getting gun control legislation passed will require political will at the national, state and local level. Sometimes (particularly now), our chosen politicians don’t seem to be following the will of the people. The way to fix this is to make your voices heard and VOTE!
Meanwhile, these gun buybacks offer us a chance to do something now, to ACT now! In exchange for each gun turned in, the participants receive gift cards ranging in value from $100 to $250. The amount received depends on the type of gun, with the highest amount given for assault weapons. After being turned in, the metal from the guns is turned into gardening implements.
If you want to support gun buybacks in New Mexico, you can make a donation directly to the non-profit New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence. Or you can make a tax-deductible donation to St. Mark’s and write “End Gun Violence” in the check memo or PayPal comment. We will turn around and pass the donations on to New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence. We are also looking into the possibility of St. Mark’s hosting or partnering in a future gun buyback. If you are interested in being involved, please talk with me or drop me an email.

Pause & Pray for Justice & Peace - Summer 2022
|
|
On the evening of Wednesday, May 25th, members of St. Mark’s gathered in the wake of two recent mass shootings in our country to remember, to lament, and to pray together. One of St. Mark’s members who gathered for prayer that evening suggested that we ring the church bells 32x each day for 32 days in remembrance of the 32 lives that were lost in the recent massacres in Buffalo and Uvalde.
The evil, the violence, the pain and the suffering in our world can be overwhelming. The ringing bells call us to remember the lives lost and the lives destroyed. The ringing bells call us to prayer and to action. The ringing bells call us to resist the temptation to numbness and slumber; to “stake awake” to the pain and suffering in our world, and in our hearts. The ringing bells call us to resist the temptation to despair and complacency; to “stay awake” to the Spirit’s presence with us and the Spirit’s ever-present call to join in bringing God’s healing, justice, and peace into the world.
If you would like to help St. Mark’s Ring the Bells for Justice and Peace, just sign up on the clipboard in the entryway to the church. You are welcome to ring the bells:
- Alone, or with others
- At noon (or at any time of day that works for you)
- With or without sharing to social media (if you are a social media user, you are welcome to livestream to the social media platform of your choice, but it’s not required)
If you’d like a suggested “outline” to follow, one is posted behind the sign-up sheet on the clipboard, along with a variety of possible resources if you'd like to offer a short prayer, reading, song, or meditation before ringing the bells.
If you have any questions, contact Mother Sylvia via email.
If you plan to ring the bells outside of regular office hours (Sun, 8AM-12PM; Mon-Thurs, 9AM-2PM) please contact Jennifer Lind via email to arrange to borrow a set of keys.
