SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH
COVID-19 Update for St. Mark's
welcome_flowers_pear.jpg
According to state data, Bernalillo County residents are currently 64% fully vaccinated. In light of this news, in conjunction with Governor Grisham’s June 18th, 2021 Press Release in which she set a date of July 1st to eliminate all business restrictions across the state, St. Mark’s has decided:

  • Starting Thursday, July 1st reservations or check-ins will no longer be necessary for in-person worship.
  • Masks will still be required in the worship space.
  • Coffee hour will remain outdoors with easy-to-grab snacks (nothing messy, to be prepared, and no dips).

We appreciate everyone’s continued thoughtfulness and diligence in keeping masks on during worship to help keep our most vulnerable parishioners safe, as well as learning and growing with us over the course of these past 15+ months. We look forward to seeing you, and your families and friends!
Summer of Storytelling Supper #2
Saturday, July 10 from 5-7 p.m.
You are invited to join us in person at St. Mark's or online, via Zoom, for an evening of sacred storytelling and fellowship. This event is for all ages, and children are most welcome!

The shape of our gathering is as follows:
  • 5:00 p.m. Opening Gathering (Scripture Storytelling)
  • 5:30 p.m. Supper & Personal Storytelling with Table Groups (This month we'll be sharing the story of God giving Moses the Law on Mt. Sinai and sharing our own personal stories of "breaking the rules," getting into trouble, and/or finding our way.)
  • 6:45 p.m. Closing Gathering (Compline)
A simple supper (sandwiches and chips) will be provided. There is no cost for this event, but we welcome your donations to help cover the cost of supper. Please sign up no later than Monday, July 5th here, so that we can order enough sandwiches and make table assignments.
Grief Support Group
St. Mark’s is pleased to invite Jude Fournier, a grief counselor and former hospice chaplain, to facilitate a five-week grief support group (in person only) beginning Sunday, July 11th, from 11:00AM-12:15PM. Jude uses art, journaling and group sharing as a means of working through grief and loss. The cost is $25 per person, with scholarships available if needed. The cost covers all art and journal materials for the five weeks. Participants should plan to attend all sessions as each week will build on the week prior. Please sign up here by Sunday, July 4th. Please contact church administrator, Jennifer Lind (church email), or Jude Fournier (505-228-3574 or via email), if you have any questions.
Sunday, July 11: Bach's Cantata 170
On Sunday, July 11th, St. Mark's will present a special musical treat during worship: three portions of Bach's Cantata 170 with parishioner Jacque Zander-Wall singing and includes a small orchestra of strings and a flute. We look forward to worshiping with you!

Join us for our summer bible reading challenge. Read 55 core bible stories (in-part or in-whole) between now and September. You can enjoy hearing the youth of St. Mark's reading simplified versions of each story from the Children of God Storybook Bible online, and/or tackle the complete biblical text yourself! For more details, bible story links, and link to sign up, click here. Many Thanks to St. Mark's youth: Sadie, Johanna, Jonah, Angel, Graciela, Eli, Eric, and Lucia for contributing their read-aloud talents for this project!
Summer Conversations with St. Mark's Clergy
Please call to sign up now!

We are eager to hear how the Spirit is moving in your life, and we are honored to discern how we can bless and support you in this season of change and transition. As a clergy team, our (admittedly ambitious) goal is to meet with all members of St. Mark's at least once this summer.

Please help us achieve our goal by calling the church office
Monday-Thursday, 9AM-1PM at 505-262-2484 to set up your summer meeting
with one of St. Mark's Clergy as soon as possible.

Children and youth, as well as adults; visitors and newcomers, as well as longtime members; geographically distant as well as local members: Everyone is encouraged to make an appointment! Just let us know what days/times are most convenient for you and if you would prefer an "in person", phone, or zoom appointment.  Our Parish Administrator, Jennifer Lind, will be glad to assist you in scheduling your meeting, then the clergy will contact you to confirm details (including location for "in person" meetings) the week of your appointment.

Thank you for helping St. Mark's continuing to grow as a robust, healthy, spiritually connected community, by reaching out to make your appointment with a member of St. Mark's clergy today!

May 8, 1946 - April 28, 2021
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church 431 Richmond NE, Albuquerque, NM
Sunday, June 27, 2021, 2:00 p.m.

As many of you know, Father Paul passed away after a long battle with leukemia. He left this earth peacefully to join his family and friends who had gone before him.

As you might imagine, Paul wrote down everything he wanted included in his funeral/memorial service, right down to the page numbers in the BCP and hymnal. We will attempt to follow his wishes in every way possible.

Please plan to join us to celebrate Paul’s incredibly diverse and eclectic life knowing he is now happily and excitedly sharing his knowledge and abilities with everyone he meets.

The Memorial Service will also be available on Zoom and Facebook Live, links can be found on the St. Mark’s website here.

News from ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative
FaithWorks Goes to the Border. A FaithWorks delegation of our Coordinator, clergy, Family Liaisons and other volunteers visited El Paso last week. Read about it here! https://www.abqfaithworks.org/blog

More about ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative FaithWorks was established in 2019 as an alliance of churches in response to the needs of people who came knocking on the doors of churches in the Nob Hill area. We wanted to respond to the needy with more than a ‘water bottle and a granola bar’. There are now a dozen churches of many denominations working together in our community, serving marginalized populations – the unsheltered and resident migrants. We help the needy unhoused who come to the door at the First Congregational UCC church on Lomas & Girard by providing clothing, some food, and connections to other short and longer-term resource providers for their support. And we have a program providing community sponsorship for migrant families resident in Albuquerque, assisting them to navigate the cultural and legal hurdles toward community self-sufficiency. We provide direct service in many ways, including through food pantries, rent assistance and referrals to outside expert service providers.
Each program has its unique characteristics and client populations, and there is overlap in the basic humanitarian needs of clothing, food, shelter and transportation. We have built teams that provide this support under the guidance of our Coordinators: Valerie Griego for social work with the unhoused, and Jessica Corley with asylum seekers. If you are interested in volunteering and working on a team, please send an email to admin@abqfaithworks.org with your contact information, and we will be in touch! Visit our website https://www.abqfaithworks.org/ and learn more! Thanks to your church for its membership and support of these great programs in our wider community.
Email submissions should be sent (via email) to the Communications Specialist by 2:00 p.m. each Thursday for inclusion on Friday e-news. Please see submission guidelines here.
