Non-Perishable Food Items Needed |
|
The Storehouse New Mexico, one of the state’s largest food pantries, has been fighting hunger for over 40 years. We provide meals for 40,000 people a year, about 1/3 of whom are children. New Mexico ranks among the worst for food insecurity. Nearly 20% of New Mexicans wonder where their next meal will come from, and 1 in 4 children do not have enough to eat. The Storehouse relies on food and financial donations to feed local families in need. To volunteer or for more information, visit www.StorehouseNM.org.
Sadly, The Storehouse is in desperate need of everything. They report that their shelves at the pantry have less than half of what they usually have in supplies needed going into some of their busiest months. Typically, the summer months see an increase in families coming to The Storehouse, as they have to cover day care and extra food expenses. Coupled with ever-increasing food costs, local families are definitely counting on places like The Storehouse.
St. Mark's can help! Please bring any and all non-perishable foods with you to church on Sunday, or drop them off during the week during our office hours of 9-2, Monday-Thursday. Just drop the goods off in the large wooden chest near the western side of the entry area (narthex). They ask that we do not place glass items (like some baby foods) in the box of donated goods because it can break when other items are placed on top or during transport to the pantry. Basically, all canned goods, peanut butter or boxed food that doesn't need refrigeration, this pantry would graciously welcome it.

One of the ongoing ministries at St. Mark's is the support of our members during life events such as weddings, baptisms, anniversaries, funerals, etc., by helping with receptions following the service for these events.
During the early days of COVID, we suspended these activities and are now considering resuming them (with safety precautions in place). If you are feeling called to this ministry, come and find out how you might be involved (from arranging flower centerpieces, filling silver platters with catered food, decorating tables, making coffee, tea, and punch, sometimes polishing silver, greeting guests, clearing tables, and generally just creating a strong sense of hospitality at these events). The only skill needed is a strong sense of empathy!
Some very lively folks have expressed an interest in helping out, so come and join the fun! Heather Gaume will provide a light supper. Please RSVP to Heather via email so she will bring enough food.

Celebrating 10 years!
This fall, St. Mark’s Montessori will be starting its 10th year of instruction. Over the past decade, St. Mark’s Montessori School, our largest outreach ministry at St. Mark’s, has helped hundreds of children become lifelong learners, creative problem-solvers, and caring community members. The school currently has three classrooms, which serve 53 students, and 13 staff members.
St. Mark’s Montessori School is Renovating & Expanding for Fall 2022
The school is working on adding a bathroom and a classroom this summer to meet the growing toddler community’s demands. With this expansion, the school will open up additional student spots this fall. We are in the midst of hiring additional teachers and enrolling students. Summer of Conversation Cafés |

During the summer, we encourage teens, adults, and school-aged kids to utilize the "Sunday School Hour" (~11:15AM-12:15PM) to participate in our Summer of Conversation through Conversation Cafes, and one-on-one conversations. On most summer Sundays, Deacon David or I will facilitate conversation & storytelling activities for Elementary & Middle School Aged youth in the library during this hour. If you're new to St. Mark's Summer of Conversation, please be sure seek out a clergy member to help get you started.
A note about child/nursery care: Since we don't presently have any families with young children utilizing nursery care during worship at St. Mark's at this time, for the summer months we will be shifting the nursery care workers schedule to provide nursery care and playground supervision on Summer Sundays from 10:30-12:30PM, enabling families to worship together, and parents and older siblings to use the time following worship for fellowship and "Summer of Conversation" activities and conversations.

This summer, we will continue to have a choir at each Sunday service. We will not have midweek rehearsals; we will instead gather on Sundays at 8:50 a.m. to prepare the music for that week's service. The music will be simple enough to learn in about 30 minutes and we will not wear robes. The summer choir will be a fun and low-commitment way to try out singing in the choir if you have ever considered joining. To join, just show up in the choir loft on any Sunday at 8:50 a.m. |

Did you know that every Thursday St. Mark’s has a midweek 11AM Holy Eucharist?
This summer we have invited our retired clergy to offer sermons at our Thursday Eucharist. Our full-time staff members will be preaching during the summer some as well.
Consider it a kind of Summer Preaching Festival featuring: Rev. Rhonda McIntire, Rev. Neil Elliott, Rev. Michael Jupin, Rev. Rob Clark, Rev. Jim Porter and Rev. Billie Abraham. Thursday sermons often reflect on the life of a saint in our Holy Women, Holy Men calendar or on the readings for that day. We are looking forward to hearing some new voices in the pulpit and to building up this midweeks service. St. Mark’s Thursday 11AM Eucharist is a very accessible service, slightly more casual, includes a coffee hour afterwards, and is followed by an amazing small group Bible Study on the Beatitudes. It’s is also a great Eucharist to attend if you know that you might be out of town on Sunday. For the contemplative among us or those seeking quiet, there is also a 30-minute meditative sit in the Stoney Chapel at 10:30 (Enter by Stoney Chapel door in east parking lot) prior to the 11 AM Eucharist.
