For your thought:
He also said to the crowds, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, `It is going to rain'; and so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, `There will be scorching heat'; and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?" -- Luke 12:54-56

Our Sunday Altar Flowers are provided by the Altar Guild with donations from the congregation. If you have a special birthday, a loved one you are missing or a special date you wish to commemorate, consider making a donation for the altar flowers that week with a special note in the Order of Worship. The suggested donation for flowers is $60.00, which covers Altar Guild costs. However, we will gratefully accept any amount in remembrance or in honor of your loved one. Dedications need to be clearly written and the donations must be received one week before the date for print. To assist you, we have a sign-up here, and you may drop the donation in the mail or the gray drop box behind the Welcome Table in the narthex. Please write" Altar Flowers" in the memo line description, if using a check, or select "Altar Flowers" in the dropdown in PayPal. If you have any questions, please contact our Parish Administrator, Jennifer Lind (email her here) or call her at 505.262.2484. Thank you!

Asylum Seekers Need Athletic Shoes
|
|
Once again St. Mark’s will be collecting athletic shoes (slip-ons and laces) for the folks on the buses coming here from El Paso’s Annunciation House.
The ad-hoc group, Albuquerque Asylum Welcome is seeing one bus a week. These travelers are from many countries: Turkey, Cuba, Brazil, and Haiti most recently.
The need is for walking shoes even though most of these people will be heading out in a few days to a sponsor. Usually they travel by plane, but also trains and buses. They stay here in a motel for a few days to get checked for COVID and to make travel arrangements that are typically paid for by their family or friends who are sponsoring them. Each gets a new set of clothes and shoes if available.
Especially needed are men’s sizes 7-9, women’s sizes 5-9 and children’s shoes of all sizes. Don’t break the bank. Discount and big box stores are OK. New or slightly used only, please.
It’s one small thing a person can do about the chaos in our world right now. Please drop them in the rainbow-colored box near the east door to St. Mark’s. Someone will gather them up and take them to Second Presbyterian Church’s clothing bank for asylum seekers. If you have questions, please email Mary Beth Libbey, Pauline Artery or Mary Ellen Elliott (email them here). If you would like to help serve meals or guide folks through the airport, our contact person is Virginia Dickson (email here).
Thank you to all who have donated sweatsuits and shoes in the past.

Summer of Conversation Cafés
|
|
During the summer, we encourage teens, adults, and school-aged kids to utilize the "Sunday School Hour" (~11:15AM-12:15PM) to participate in our Summer of Conversation through Conversation Cafes, and one-on-one conversations. On most summer Sundays, Deacon David or Mother Sylvia will facilitate conversation & storytelling activities for Elementary & Middle-School-aged youth in the library during this hour. If you're new to St. Mark's Summer of Conversation, please be sure seek out a clergy member to help get you started.
A note about child/nursery care: Since we don't presently have any families with young children utilizing nursery care during worship at St. Mark's at this time, for the summer months we will be shifting the nursery care workers schedule to provide nursery care and playground supervision on Summer Sundays from 10:30-12:30PM, enabling families to worship together, and parents and older siblings to use the time following worship for fellowship and "Summer of Conversation" activities and conversations.

Soul Songs for Every Season
October 13-15, 2022
Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey, Albuquerque, NM
Join Mother Sylvia and Music That Makes Community for a spacious, three-day/two-night retreat . As we enjoy the beauty of autumn in the desert, we’ll sing and reflect on the theme “Soul Songs for Every Season.” Recognizing the rapid change and constant pivoting in our lives the past few years, we'll lean into a spacious time for rest and rejuvenation, tune ourselves to the rhythms of the land, and listen for songs and spiritual practices that can sustain us through every season of life.
Registration fees are on a sliding scale and include lodging, all meals (from dinner Thursday to lunch Saturday), and all workshop materials. We ask you to pay what is generous and affordable for you, with gratitude for the time and skill of our presenters. Additional scholarship support is also available, if needed.
The retreat will be led by a dynamic team of musicians and clergy from the United States and Canada, including Sylvia Miller Mutia, David Poole, Patti Powell, Emilie Teresa Smith, and Paul Vasile. There will be regular opportunities for communal worship and reflection, as well as time for personal rest and renewal.
