SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH
Book Group: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Book Group at St. Mark's: Deacon David will be leading a book group on the novel, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, by Rachel Joyce. Wednesdays August 12, 19, and 26 via Zoom. The plan was for a group to meet at 11:00 and another at 7:00. Currently, both groups are extremely small. If you are interested, please sign up as soon as possible. To prepare for our first meeting, please read Chapters 1-10. Pay close attention to the people Harold meets as he begins his pilgrimage and how they influence his attitude and his journey. Some copies of the book are available on the lending table by the west parking lot entrance at St. Mark’s.

This will be an online class. After you sign up, Deacon David will send an email to you before the class starts to let you know how to join. Please sign up here.
Summer of Conversation Virtual Training #2
connected_people_colors.jpg
Thursday, August, 13, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

One of the core values of St. Mark’s is to be a deeply relational church. One of the ways we make this possible in the life of the community of St. Mark’s is to become more intentional about building relationships and listening more deeply to one another. To this end, we have begun A Summer of Conversation at St. Mark’s. The concept is simple: Encourage conversations among our members that help people get to know one another, talk about why St. Marks’ is important to them and to get a sense for where they sense God at work in them and the congregation.

In this time of Covid-19 our training will be a bit different and our methods of having conversations may change a bit as well but we want to stay connected, develop deep relationships and discover together where God is at work in our faith community through listening to one another. Whether you have previously been trained, have not been trained but want to be part of this summer effort, or are just curious you are welcome to the training and preparation for this Summer of Conversation.

This training is open to all. Please sign up here to attend the training.

Green Team at St. Mark's
St. Mark’s has a Green Team! Well, actually we’re just getting started! Our goals are to reduce the church’s energy and water footprint, improve efficiency, and reduce waste. St. Mark’s is participating in the Albuquerque Mayor’s Energy Challenge, which provides resources to help small businesses and organizations achieve 20% energy savings in five years in order to help the city meet its climate goals.

During this time of COVID-19, all of us are spending a lot more time at home and less time everywhere else including at church. Recognizing this, the city has provided some resources to help everyone look for opportunities to save energy at home. The links below provide access to a useful tip sheet and also an informative but funny video (starring Albuquerque’s favorite comedian Lynette). We hope everyone will take a look.

If you’re interested in participating in St. Mark’s Green Team, send a note to Ken Reese via email.

P.S. My favorite home energy saving initiative is the wind and solar powered dryer (AKA a clothesline). I can’t remember the last time we used our dryer. Sometimes by the time I’ve finished hanging up a basket of laundry, the first thing I hung on the line is already dry. I’ll make this offer: if any St. Mark’s family wants a clothesline and needs help putting one up, send me an email and I’ll work with you to install your wind and solar powered dryer.
Wednesday Prayer & Meditation Hour
Next Week, St. Mark’s will again offer an opportunity for in-person Prayer and Meditation in the Nave of our building on Wednesday, August 12, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. A contemplative mix of instrumental music and silence, culminating with the Lord's Prayer as the tower bell is rung.

There is assigned seating, so please reserve a spot prior to coming. Also, all are asked to wear a face covering, to observe social distancing guidelines and to make sure that they are signed-in and that we have proper information. We ask that socializing on church grounds be done in the safest way possible with masks and proper distancing so that we can endeavor to keep our congregation safe and healthy.
