The Messenger of St. Mark's | After Pentecost | Sept. 26, 2024
For your thought:
Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. --James 5:13-15

Fall Stewardship is a time of reflection about how each of us will support, spiritually and financially, the community of St. Mark's, in the coming year. Our theme this year is "A Sanctuary of Growth and Belonging." Celebration Sunday (also known as Pledge and Pancakes Sunday) is October 27th when we bring our completed pledge cards to worship. Please participate in this time of discernment by reflecting on how St. Mark's provides you sanctuary and how you might help provide sanctuary to others here at St. Mark's.

Exploring Prayer through Sufi Practices
Embracing the Names of God
w/Mary Catherine Casey
Thursdays at 12:15pm in St. Mark's Library
10/3, 10/10, 12/5, 12/12
St. Mark's member Mary Catherine Casey writes:
"Growing up as a Roman Catholic I loved not only Jesus, but also the saints whose lives seemed to highlight different aspects of God’s gracious love and forgiveness. It provided me a way to see in action how my little light might reflect the Christ Light.
In my late forties I was introduced to Sufism through the teachings and practices of Hazrat Inayat Khan. My spiritual journey deepen as I learned new ways of engaging our embracing God through prayer, meditation and spiritual practices.
I invite you to join me as we explore the names of God as “a way” to the Heart of God. This class will meet 4 times. October 3rd and 10th and December 5th and 12th. We will meet on Thursday’s from 12:15-1:15."

New Monthly Parenting Group
Parenting brings unique challenges at every stage. If you are doing the work of “parenting” a child of any age, or if you are simply eager to listen with curiosity and compassion to support others who are doing this important work, please join us for our new monthly Parenting Group, Saturday mornings at 9am at St. Mark's.
There will be a supervised playdate available for younger kids on the St. Mark's playground (weather permitting) or in the downstairs youth choir room (if the weather is crummy.) while parents meet for discussion in the library.
Upcoming Parenting Group Dates: 10/5, 11/2, 12/7, 1/11, 2/1, 3/8, 4/5, 5/3
Our first two gatherings will focus on Baptism, and provide an opportunity for parents who may be curious about exploring the possibility of baptism for their child to come and learn more (details below).
Even if your own kids are already baptized, this is an important opportunity for you to draw alongside other parents and provide encouragement , support, and community as they discern the right next steps in their own family's spiritual journey.
If you are the parent of teen or young adult kids, your participation is especially valuable--as newer parents often crave the support of "mentor parents" who have walked this road ahead of them.
Please join us. And please help spread the word to any other parents/families you think might be interested.

Please join St. Mark's clergy in a service of the Blessing of the Pets on Sunday, October 6 at 5:00 pm. After this lively service, you are invited to enjoy popsicles and fellowship.
