Summer of Conversation Comes to Coffee Hour in September
During the month of September, we will be enjoying an experiment during Coffee Hour with our Summer of Conversation Team. In normal years, our team of 40-50 members spends the summer reaching out to people they do not know well or have not met and scheduling 30-45-minute conversations to get to know one another. Our goal is to listen for where God is at work in each other’s lives and to create a thick network of relationships that make St. Mark’s an unusual parish of connections. Covid has made some of our work more challenging this summer and one creative way we want to try to tackle this is to have small breakout conversations during Coffee Hour in September. So, we invite any and all members of St. Mark’s to tune into coffee hour at 11 am on Sundays via zoom and enjoy the opportunity to have a conversation with someone you may or may not know in a breakout room. We’ll provide a guiding question or two and then let people’s interest and curiosity carry the rest of the conversation. We look forward to the conversation.

How to Be an Antiracist, by Ibram X. Kendi
Monday, September 28th from 7-8:30PM on Zoom
In response to our participation in an Anti-Racist Primer course this summer, several members of St. Mark's are meeting monthly on Zoom for accountability and support in continuing to engage the crucial issues of racism and antiracism in our own lives and communities. For the next several months we will be reading and discussing, How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram X. Kendi. All are welcome to join us on the 4th Monday of each month, from 7-8:30 p.m. for a time of prayerful processing and discussion. Our next meeting will be on Monday, September 28th on Zoom. We will be discussing the introduction and first two chapters of the book (pages 3-34: "My Racist Introduction", "Definitions", and Dueling Consciousness).

Musical Co-conspirators Wanted!
  • Do you have an iPhone or iPad (i.e.: a mobile Apple device)?
  • Do you love to sing or play an instrument?
  • Are you willing to experiment?

Mother Sylvia is looking for musical co-conspirators of all ages to assist in creating offertory music for our online Sunday services, using an app called Acapella. This week's project is a simple (8 bar) round--we can send you the sheet music and an audio file so that you can learn the music in advance of recording. If you're interested in helping out this week -- or in the future -- please contact Sylvia+ or text 510-932-1315.  Novices welcome; we're all learning together!
