Wrap Up the Holidays Safely: Tips for a Joyful Season in the Village
|
The holidays are a time for celebration, but they can also bring unique safety challenges. Follow these tips to ensure a joyful and secure season:
- Decorate Smart: Keep flammable decorations away from heat sources and ensure lights are in good condition. Turn off decorations before leaving home or going to bed.
- Secure Your Home: If traveling, let a trusted neighbor know and avoid advertising your plans on social media. Use timers for lights to give your home a lived-in appearance.
- Stay Alert on the Road: Holiday traffic and gatherings can lead to distractions. Drive cautiously, especially in the Village where walkers share the road.
By taking a few extra precautions, you can enjoy a safe and stress-free holiday season. Wishing you a happy and secure celebration!

Tidy Holidays: Keep Recycling and Trash in Check!
|
With the holiday season comes an increase in packages and waste.
Please remember to break down boxes and place them in recycling bins, keeping glass and plastic separate from paper and cardboard.
GOOD NEWS: An extra dumpster is now outside Village Hall for your cardboard boxes. Please remember:
- Break down all your boxes
- DO NOT recycle pizza boxes (or any cardboard with food residue)
- The extra dumpster is ONLY FOR CARDBOARD.
For all other recycling, never put trash or plastic grocery bags in recycling.
- Plastic grocery bags are not recyclable. They go in the trash, or you may return them to the grocery store.
Trash pickup is on Tuesdays and Fridays; place bags in secure cans at the end of your driveway on collection days only to prevent animals from scattering waste. Bag styrofoam and include it with regular trash.
Thank you for helping keep our community clean this holiday season!

Q: How long have you worked in the Village of Golf?
- Next September will mark 25 years I've served the Village.
Q: Can you briefly describe the work you do for the Village?
- I wear A LOT of hats! I'm the official custodian of records and the Village seal, oversee Village elections, and manage records. I maintain official minutes, record local laws, ordinances, and resolutions. I also handle public records requests, publish legal notices, updates the Village Code, and manages Village Financial Disclosure Statements. I also serve as the Utilities Clerk, managing all permitting processes.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
- You can't do this job without loving the residents! After so many years, it's like working with family.
Q: What can be the most challenging thing about your job?
- Probably time management. Sometimes it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day.
Q: What is something in your personal life you are most proud of?
- I love my family, and one of my greatest joys is traveling with loved ones.
Q: Do you have a message for Village residents?
- Please don't wait until you have an "official" reason to stop by Village Hall. I love catching up with old friends, and making news ones.
