THE ART OF NOT BEING QUIET

You are invited to join California Heights United Methodist Church located at 3759 Orange Avenue, Long Beach, CA, on Sunday, October 27 at 10:00 AM for worship.

Our lead pastor, Rev. Scott Andrews, will preach from Mark 10:46-52 (New Revised Standard Version) with a sermon titled "The Art of Not Being Quiet."

Our anthem for the morning will be "All to Me" shared with us by Fire Within Us. Special Music will be "Taste and See the Goodness of the Lord" shared with us by The Chancel Choir.

400+ Food Drive

Oct. 27 - Nov. 10



Together, our Being the Church congregations are working across Long Beach to collect 400+ cans of green beans and cranberry sauce for the annual Christmas Outreach in Action’s Thanksgiving meals campaign. 

Donations are being collected from Oct. 27-Nov. 10 following Sunday and Wednesday services and during weekday business hours at church offices. 

ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS MARKET

Our Alternative Christmas Market crew has set Saturday, November 2 as the date for this year's market. They are working hard to make this year's market great.

Their next meeting is set for Tuesday, October 29th @ 11:00 AM in Hughes Hall.

Set up will be on Friday, November 1 at 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Any and all able bodied volunteers would be appreciated.

LECTIONARY BIBLE STUDY

The Lectionary Bible Study will resume on Monday, October 28 at 10:00 AM in the Church Parlor.

We will study each of the four scriptures that are assigned to each Sunday of the Christian calendar. Each set of scriptures can be found in the GPS on the back of the Sunday bulletin. 

The study will continue until November 18.

ALL CHURCH CONFERENCE

This year's All Church Conference is Scheduled for Sunday, November 11, 2024 following our worship service. Rev. Saia Tu'itahi (West District Superintendent) will preside over our gather.

Plans for 2025 will be further shared by Rev. Scott Andrews as well as reports from various committees.

Coffee and refreshments will be served.

KNITTER’S GROUP

Our knitter's group has returned! They gather from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evenings in the Bride's Room. All skill levels and all questions are welcome.

All goblins are invited to join the Halloween fun all around the campus. Trick or treating starts at 5:45pm and follows with a costume parade! Then, we will enjoy a wonderful meal together with song, prayers and fellowship. After dinner, we are building 100 Hygiene Kits for our mobile houseless ministry that serves our houseless community at the LA Riverbank monthly. Please sign up so we can best plan for all of the small groups and meals, too. If you would like to sponsor the cost of a hygiene kit ($4 per kit), donations are received in the Church Center App. Or, please speak with Pastor Melinda (E: Melinda@BeingtheChurchLB.org)

Being the Church, Long Beach: Grace on 3rd campus

Groundlings Camp Ministry is hosting a very special day, right after Halloween.  Campers are invited to come in costume for a big costume parade, and to bring ALL of their Halloween candy for a massive candy trade!!  We will have tons of recreation, crafts, and a little down time, too.  Also, we will be packing care packages for college students with our candy as our service for the day.  Sign up’s are open with a limited number of spots, so secure your space today!

During this school year, a season of confirmation for our church youth will be offered to all students currently in 8th grade and older.  Prior to its start, parents and caregivers are invited to an informational orientation about the confirmation faith journey.  Please join Pastors Melinda and Bomi and bring your calendars and questions!  Also, please note that attending the orientation is not a commitment of participation.

We will work to pack 100's of Thanksgiving food boxes that will be delivered to hungry families in need. We need 25 persons to make it happen! Let's DO this! Bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat.  Dress to get dirty, and move a lot!
