HANGING OF THE GREENS

This MUCH anticipated annual event is just around the corner! Our Hanging of the Greens event will be held on Sunday, December 1 following worship. A lot of hard work goes into this event so we will have a luncheon for all of those who participate!

Don’t miss this great event! If you would like to be a part of the set-up crew, just show up. If you can help provide the luncheon, contact Rev. Scott at revscottandrews@gmail.com.

ADVENT STUDY 2024

We will once again hold an Advent Study using Rev. Rachel Billups’ book An Unlikely Advent: Extraordinary People of the Christmas Story. This four-week Advent study focuses on the experiences of four sets of often overlooked characters in the Nativity story. Readers are guided through the themes of hope, love, joy, and peace by sharing the stories of Elizabeth and Zechariah, Herod, the Magi, and the shepherds. Each set of unexpected characters has something to teach about living faithfully on the journey to Christmas.

Our study begins on Monday, December 2. We will meet at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM in the Church Parlor. Copies of the book will be available as soon as they arrive from Cokesbury. They cost $14.00.

ADVENT 2024

Advent is fast approaching once again. Advent is the season where Christians all around the world begin to prepare themselves for the birth of the Christ child. The Sundays of Advent this year are December 1, 8, 15, and 22. Each week this year promises to be a celebration not to be missed. Through decoration, music, and word, we at Cal Heights will also prepare ourselves for the Christ child to enter our lives.

On December 1, our scripture reading will be from Luke 1:5-18 where Zechariah and Elizabeth learn of the birth their one and only child who will be the forerunner of Christ. Our scripture reading on December 8 will be Luke 1:26-38 where we will focus on Mary receiving word of her role is God’s plan to redeem the world. December 15 we'll look at Mary’s visit to Elizabeth as we read from Luke 1:39-45. And finally, we will read from Luke 1:57-66 and look at John being presented and named.

Advent concludes on Christmas Eve. Our scripture reading will be from Luke 2. Scripture and music will be used to lead us to the birth of Christ and the visit of the shepherds. We will conclude this year’s service on the front steps of the church with candle lighting and singing (weather permitting).

We hope you can join us for the Advent season!

WHERE IS HUMPHREY?

We continue the tradition of “Where is Humphrey?” again this year. Humphrey the camel (from our sanctuary Nativity set) is on the loose! Each week Rev Scott hides Humphrey somewhere in the Sanctuary or the Narthex.

This is a fun game for all ages. Each person is challenged to “find” Humphrey but then not tell anyone until the “big reveal” each week during the Children’s Message.

Humphrey will begin hiding on Sunday, December 1.

KNITTER’S GROUP

Our knitter's group has returned! They gather from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evenings in the Bride's Room. All skill levels and all questions are welcome.

Please let Esther Fairris (e.fairris@charter.net) know if you will be coming.
