WORSHIP THIS WEEK

EVERYONE IS WELCOME to California Heights United Methodist Church (3759 Orange Avenue, Long Beach, CA) on Sunday, October 26 at 10:00 AM for our worship service.

Our lead pastor, Rev. Scott Andrews, will preach from Luke 18:9-14 with a sermon titled “Highs & Lows."

The Chancel Choir and Fire Within Us will combine to share our anthem titled "In This Very Room."

GIVING ON LINE

While placing our offering in the plate each Sunday is the way many of us grew up giving to the church, it is no longer the only way to give. At Cal Heights UMC, we utilize Vanco for our online giving.

GREEN BEANS & CRANBERRY SAUCE

Once again we are going to be teaming up with our sibling churches of Being the Church, Long Beach to collect 400 cans on green beans and cranberry sauce.

The last day to bring cans in will be Sunday, November 16. Please bring your cans to the table to the left of the sanctuary double doors (non-perishable food items for the Broken Loaf Food Pantry can be placed on the table to the right of the sanctuary double doors).

CELEBRATION OF LIFE

A Celebration of Life for Jean Price will be held on October 25 at California Heights United Methodist Church in Long Beach, California at 2:00 PM. 

This will be a wonderful gathering for family and friends with excellent music, remembrances, and a sermon by Sheena Trotter-Dennis.

The choir which she accompanied during her residency as organist and the Bell choir which she directed at the same time will participate.

CROP WALK

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26

Greetings on behalf of Church World Service and “CROP”! The 50th Annual Long Beach CROP Hunger Walk is looking for walkers and sponsors.

Registration begins at 1:30 PM and the 5K/31 mile walk begins at 2:30 PM all from the Los Altos UMC preschool patio. Volunteers are needed that day for registration and other things. People are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Cal State Long Beach “Beach Pantry” this year.

Join us on Saturday, November 1 for our annual Alternative Christmas Market that gives you an alternative to traditional holiday shopping! Shop fairtrade goods and contribute to charitable organizations that support our local community and beyond.

ALL SAINTS DAY

All Saints Day (November 1) is a special day in Christian calendar to remember church members who have passed on to glory in the last year. At Cal Heights we celebrate church members as well as member's family who have passed. We celebrate all that they have done for us and taught us.

On Sunday, November 2, we will celebrate our new saints. Please send in the names of all those whom you wish to have acknowledged during the service. Include the complete spelling of their names and the date when they passed. We will celebrate all those who have passed between November 3, 2024, and November 2, 2025.

Send all names to the Church Office (562-595-1996 or office@calheightsumc.org) on or before October 30 at 12:00 PM. This will give us time to enter the names in “The Messenger” and the weekly worship bulletin.

DAY LIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS

Please remember to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 2.

NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS

We will gather NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS for the Broken Loaf Food Pantry at Lakewood UMC on Sunday, November 2.

All items for the Broken Loaf can be placed on the table to the right of the sanctuary center double doors (cans of green beans and cranberry sauce for the Christian Outreach in Action can be place on the table to the left of the sanctuary double doors).

HARMONY BOUND CRAFTERS

The Harmony Bound Crafters are meeting on first and second Saturdays of each month from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Yoga in the Park!

9:00 AM in Whaley Park 

Upcoming - Oct. 26 + Nov. 23

Join us for some relaxed stretching, deep breathing, and some yoga poses, too. We will gather together out in nature, under a beautiful morning sky. Free parking is available. We meet on the north side of the park (E Los Santos Drive side). Suggested donation $10 supports all “being the church” ministries.
