WORSHIP THIS WEEK

EVERYONE IS WELCOME to California Heights United Methodist Church (3759 Orange Avenue, Long Beach, CA) on Sunday, August 3 at 10:00 AM for our worship service.

We will celebrate Holy Communion during the service. PLEASE NOTE that to an overwhelming demand, we may or may not have the self serve communion cups available this month.

Our lead pastor, Rev. Scott Andrews, will preach from Luke 12:13-21 with a sermon titled “Rich Toward God."



Robyn Frey-Monell (soprano section leader) will share our anthem.

NON-PERISHABLE FOOD

Help support the Lakewood UMC Food Pantry!

Our next opportunity to bring in non-perishable food items will be Sunday, August 3. 

Please bring your donations to the Narthex.

Small and medium size sturdy boxes would be appreciated for the Rummage Sale cleanup of donation items. Please bring them to Hughes Hall and put them on the stage. We are also in need of sturdy plastic bags.

57 Day Scripture Reading Challenge

Read the scriptures for 57 days. Everyone is challenged to do just that ...

Click here to download the schedule. Even if you start now, it's not too late to catch up. Each passage is short and will lead you to the scriptures used on Sunday morning.

This not a "read the entire Bible in 57 days." Rather, it's a way for all of us to strengthen our daily routine.

HYGIENE PRODUCTS

Our next opportunity to give is Sunday, August 17. We are asking you to bring hygiene products (new and unused) to the church to be donated to the Long Beach Rescue Mission. 

Bring your hygiene product donations to the Narthex.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL

It's hard to believe, but schools will be returning to their full swing at the end of August! To acknowledge this, we are going to celebrate all of our students, faculty, and staff members of the various schools.

On Sunday, August 24, we will have a special time in our 10:00 AM worship service to bless all the students, faculty, and staff members of our congregation.

LAY SERVANT MINISTRIES

Have you ever wanted to connect with other Lay Members in the California-Pacific Conference IN PERSON?  

Have you ever wanted to complete a Lay Servant Ministries Basic Couse in 2 days (instead of 5 weeks)?

We have a fun and informative Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course coming up, August 23-24, 2025 in Sierra Madre, California!

This course will be taught by Erin Hawkins, the Executive Director of Connectional Ministries for the California-Pacific Conference. Cathy Wilson will be there as well to connect.

About the Course: God calls you to a life of servanthood as a disciple of Jesus Christ. This course will give you a variety of opportunities to serve in your local and the greater church community. Any lay member of a United Methodist Church is welcome. 

For those wanting a certification, this is the first class towards being a Certified Lay Servant, Lay Speaker or Lay Minister. You do not need to be on a certification track to take this course.

You will learn about the Ministry of the Baptized, Leading, Caring, Communicating and Ministry In the World. You will also learn about the history of Lay Servant Ministries and develop a personal testimony while creating connections with other United Methodist laity.

Don't miss the opportunity to be in person and connect as we are a connectional church!

HARMONY BOUND CRAFTERS

The Harmony Bound Crafters are meeting on first and second Saturdays of each month from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

School Spirit Night

All ages and all stages are welcome to join our weekly Wednesday night dinner church. We will sing, pray, play and dine together. On School Spirit night, everyone is invited to dress in school/alumni pride-wear!! Following our meal, small groups for all ages from Kinder through HS and adults as well. We are always receptive to helpers for set up and clean up, too! 🙂
