CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
OCTOBER 31
Messiah's Council has called a congregational meeting following worship on Sunday, October 31st in the Sanctuary. The purpose of this meeting is to revise and update our constitution. By now, all members should have received a letter by mail announcing this meeting with an explanation of the reasons for the revisions. On Monday, an email was sent to members with detailed documents about the current constitution and what is being proposed. There will be listening sessions on the two Sundays prior to October 31st for an opportunity for questions and answers and further discussion.
NEW WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY TOPIC
BEGINNING IN NOVEMBER
The group will begin a new Bible Study on November 1st and conclude on December 6th. It is Advent of the Savior, LifeGuide Bible Studies. These six studies are designed to help us prepare for Advent and Christmas. The season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 28th and continues until December 29th. In the hopes that you will get a fresh vision of the coming of Christ, these six different angles from which to view the birth of Christ are covered—the perspective of his parents, his aunt and uncle, shepherds doing a day's work, a far-off Magi, and nearby despots—even the perspective of the prophets who preceded him by centuries. We meet every Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. to about 11:15 a.m. Please let Randi VenHuizen (402-216-3067 or randiv1026@gmail.com) know if you’d like to join us on our pilgrimage to Advent. This will be our last study for 2021.

SERMON PREVIEW SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10
Among the many people seeking Jesus out in the Gospel of Mark were those bringing children to Jesus hoping that their child could get a moment with him. But the disciples not only prevented the children from being with Jesus, they also spoke sternly against it. In turn, Jesus was indignant with the disciples, saying “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it. " (Mark 10:14-15). Then he took children up in his arms and blessed them. Questions for reflection: Why would the disciples not want the children to see Jesus? How do you think they felt after Jesus corrected them indignantly? Who brought you to Jesus when you were a child? Next Week: God and Money, a stewardship sermon.
