Message from Superintendent Deborah Houser:

Thank you for a great 2024-2025 school year! I would like to wish all of you a safe, peaceful, and joy-filled summer. These next few months are a time to rest, recharge, and enjoy your families. Whether you’re traveling or just taking it slow at home, I hope your days are filled with sunshine and good memories.

While students and staff take a well-earned break, our work behind the scenes doesn’t stop. This summer, we’re laying the groundwork for a significant shift in how our district serves elementary students. Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, all of our elementary schools will move to a K–6 model. This change means the current Highview 6th Grade Center will close, and Central Academy will relocate to the Highview building.

This transition marks an exciting new chapter for Middletown, one that we’ve shaped together. I’m incredibly grateful for the conversations, feedback, and steady support our community has offered throughout the redistricting process. Thank you for being part of this important work. Change of this scale isn’t always easy, but it’s made better when we move forward together.

Our team will be hard at work all summer preparing for what’s ahead. If you have questions or just want to connect, don’t hesitate to call or stop by; we’re still here and happy to help.

Finally, a heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2025! 390 graduates walked across the stage and into their bright futures. We are incredibly proud of each one of them; their hard work, perseverance, and dreams have inspired us all. Go out and change the world!

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer.

Curriculum Department Update: Reflecting on a Year of Growth and Innovation

As the school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible journey we’ve shared across our classrooms, hallways, and community spaces. From launching new programs to deepening our commitment to personalized and experiential learning, this year has been one of growth, creativity, and collaboration. Our students have explored, created, questioned, and led—and we are so proud of all they’ve accomplished.

Behind every successful student experience is the dedication of our educators, support staff, and families. Thank you for your continued partnership, passion, and tireless efforts to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment. Whether it was a new curriculum pilot, a powerful community partnership, or a meaningful student project, each initiative has brought us closer to our shared vision for high-quality, engaging education.

As we head into summer, we hope you find time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the people and places you love. We’ll be hard at work preparing for an exciting new year ahead, but for now, we wish you sunny days, good books, and plenty of joyful moments. Have a safe and wonderful summer!

By-the-Numbers Financial Update:

Middletown Community Call to Action: Help Us Complete Our Transportation Facility Project

Dear Middletown Families, Staff, and Community Members,

We are writing to request your immediate help.

Middletown City School District is in the middle of a vital infrastructure project, our new Transportation and Maintenance Facility, that has been severely impacted by a federal funding reversal. This project is more than just bricks and mortar. It is essential to improving daily attendance, safe student transport, and the overall efficiency of our district’s services.

🚧 What's at Risk?

Construction began with approval from state and federal authorities, supported in part by $6.76 million in ARP/ESSER funds. However, $5.62 million remains unreimbursed due to an unexpected federal claw back. The facility, now 40% complete, is left structurally exposed without a roof or windows, putting it at risk of weather damage, cost escalations, and delays.

We are on a timeline to complete the facility by September 2025 so it can be operational for the next school year. Without federal support, that timeline and the project itself are in jeopardy.

🛠 Why This Project Matters

  • New, safer, and more efficient bus lanes
  • Modern maintenance shop to replace failing infrastructure
  • Improved fueling and vehicle storage facilities
  • Operational upgrades that support after-school and summer programs

These upgrades are especially important for students impacted by learning loss during the pandemic, and are critical to ensuring equity and reliable access to school.

📨 How You Can Help

We urge you to contact our federal decision-makers today. Tell them Middletown students deserve the support they were promised. Urge them to restore the funding necessary to complete this project.
