Message from Superintendent Deborah Houser:

Summer break is here!

As superintendent, I cannot emphasize enough the vital role outdoor play has in the growth and development of our young and old Middie family members, especially during the summer months. The warm weather and extended daylight hours provide an ideal environment for children of all ages to engage in physical activities that not only enhance physical well-being, but also contribute significantly to mental and emotional health. Outdoor play fosters creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills as children interact with their peers in unstructured settings. It encourages exploration of natural surroundings, learning about environments, and promotes a lifelong appreciation for nature and outdoor activities.

Outdoor play during the summer is essential in combating the effects of sedentary lifestyles that are becoming increasingly common in today's digital age. It provides a healthy balance to screen time, ensuring that children remain active and engaged in wholesome, physically demanding activities. These activities help in developing motor skills, improving cardiovascular health, and building strong muscles and bones. Additionally, the social interactions and friendships formed during outdoor play can lead to improved social skills and emotional resilience, equipping our children with the necessary tools to face future challenges confidently. As we embrace the summer months, let us encourage our students to make the most of this time by engaging in as much outdoor play as possible, laying the foundation for a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

#MiddieMinutesMatter

#MiddieMinutesMatter is our attendance campaign designed to tackle chronic absenteeism among students and promote a culture of regular attendance.

The four key pillars of this initiative are community engagement, outreach, data-driven solutions, and celebrating attendance. To help celebrate attendance, classes with perfect attendance for seven days received donuts as part of the campaign.

Since launching the campaign this school year:

  • Over 230 dozen donuts were delivered
  • Over 2500 students received donuts
  • Over 125 classrooms received donuts
  • All 10 schools received at least one donut delivery
  • Creekview Elementary saw the most classroom donut deliveries with 28!
