Dear Parents and Families,
Greetings from the Middle of Everywhere!
It is my sincere hope that your student has had a great start to their spring semester and that they are looking forward to a spring break filled with discovery, adventure, and fun!
In this newsletter, campus partners and I are eager to share resources that Grinnell offers to help your student explore their interests, engage on and off campus, and nurture their mind, body, and spirit. The descriptions below contains reminders of important dates, opportunities for you to connect with Grinnell alumni and parents, and if you're in one of the cities for the forthcoming Grinnell Singers' tour, you can find that information as well!
One of the joys of a small college in a small town is that I meet students in both expected and unexpected places within our community and that we are able to connect and catch up. As we do, I am continually inspired by how deeply our students are learning and how broadly they are exploring. Those interactions and conversations make me proud of them and excited to see what they'll do next; your students fill me with hope for what is possible.
Warmly,
Anne
Anne F. Harris
President

Grinnell has fit swimmingly for Stambaugh Family
Despite the distance from their family home in Northern California, it didn’t take long for Regan Stambaugh ’26 to realize she made the right decision by attending Grinnell College.
“I think the thing that made us immediately like Grinnell was when Regan started on the swim team. Even before official workouts began, the team itself coalesced like a big family,” says Regan’s dad, Fred Stambaugh. “We’ve had experience with swim teams where the interpersonal culture wasn’t as supportive. But at Grinnell, she was really impressed how everyone welcomed the first-years as full-fledged members of the community.”
Two-and-a-half years later, Fred and Ginger Stambaugh continue to be pleased with how terrifically Grinnell has fit what their daughter was looking for in a higher education experience

Intercultural Affairs Offers Opportunities for Mentoring, Leadership

It’s not too late if your student is interested in joining this opportunity, to be offered annually.
Pride Week comes a little earlier at Grinnell College! The Stonewall Resource Center started the semester with opportunities for creative expression, community building, and games and dancing with LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff. Lots of opportunities to keep the warmth of Pride Week alive through the semester!
The Connie M. Kimbo Black Cultural Center advisory board and campus partners have collaborated to offer Black Joy Month, a month of intentional community that honors the historical and contemporary lived experiences of Black Americans. Movie screenings, dialogues, showcases, and so much more are planned to celebrate the Black Grinnellian experience.
The Multicultural Leadership Council (MLC) continues its legacy of exploring intersectional identity and participating in action-oriented dialogue. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Student Government Association have partnered on many impactful initiatives to improve the student experience with the MLC’s guidance. In expanding our community, many members of the MLC joined us in conversation about intersectional identity at Crossroads of Identity at Central College with the BIPOC+ Coalition, a partnership of schools across central and south-central Iowa including Central College, Drake University, Grinnell College, Simpson College, and William Penn University.
As we lean into the semester, we’re also looking forward to the opportunities students might grow into in the fall. Applications to join student staff for the Peer Connections Pre-Orientation Program have launched; we’d love to see your student on our team! We’re also excited to announce a growing partnership with Residence Life, an expansion of residential affinity housing experiences (RAHE). RAHE experiences seek to create supportive learning environments for students to work towards their personal and communal goals around identity exploration, in community affinity. Students can apply to one of the four RAHE experiences for academic year 2025-2026 (Sawubona House: Black and Pan-African, Lavender Hall: LGBTQIA+, Latinx Cultural Center, and First-Generation Low-Income) via a link in their email. We hope you’ll encourage your students to join us as we reflect, connect, engage, explore, and strategize about our world and the worlds we create this semester and in the future.

Helping Your Student Navigate Campus Resources
Grinnell prides itself on having robust campus resources, but how does your student know what’s available? We encourage students to connect with resources early and often, and the easiest way to know what is available is through the ‘Students’ tab on our homepage.
There you can find detailed information within six types of resources: academic resources, living on campus, social connections, financial services, health, wellness, and safety, and career exploration and preparation. Additionally, students are always welcome to connect with the Academic Advising office to find resources that will meet their needs.
Writing Center Resources Available
The Writing, Reading, and Speaking Center instructors offer feedback and support to students working on papers, presentations, research projects, internship and summer research applications, or job letters. Students can visit at any point in their process: planning, writing, revising. Reserve sessions using our appointment schedule.
Writing Mentor applications due Feb. 20
Students interested in working as peer writing tutors should apply to the Writing Mentors Program. More information about the position and program is available on the Handshake posting and the Writing Center website.
