The growing costs of illegal immigration continue to strain Colorado’s resources, impacting everything from public safety to local economies. As we face rising expenses, the need for solutions has never been more urgent. Our Republican leaders remain committed to addressing this issue, advocating for stronger policies that protect Colorado taxpayers and ensure our communities remain safe and prosperous. We are proud to highlight the efforts of our caucus as we work to curb the financial burden of illegal immigration on hardworking Coloradans.

AN ATTEMPT TO PROVIDE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION RELIEF

HB24-1128

Representative Holtorf's

Enforcement of Federal Immigration Law

If HB24-1128 had passed, it would have brought significant reform to illegal immigration enforcement in Colorado by reinstating a previous law (SB06-090) that prohibited local governments from enacting policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration officials, mandating peace officers to report suspected undocumented individuals to immigration authorities, and holding local governments accountable for compliance. This bill would have enhanced the state's collaboration with federal authorities, promoted consistency in immigration law enforcement, and incentivized local governments to prioritize public safety through financial penalties for non-compliance. However, the Democrats voted on party lines to kill this bill.
