An articulated engine that provided tremendous power at high speeds, the EM-1 was designed for hauling heavy loads through the Appalachian Mountains. With the diesel era fast approaching, this Baltimore & Ohio® behemoth was the last 2-8-8-4 type built in the United States, based on the "Yellowstone" configuration that was developed for the Northern Pacific some 20 years earlier. Retired after barely a decade in service, and seeing operation across the famous Sand Patch Grade, on the B&O's West End, and eventually in the flatlands of Ohio, none of these magnificent locomotives survived into preservation. However, they can now live on in your N Scale railroad empire, as they return to the Bachmann Spectrum® line with a SoundTraxx® Econami™ steam package. Factory-set for prototypical operation, the steam package offers a choice of 16 whistles, multiple variations of 6 bell types, 4 authentic chuff styles, 5 air pumps, and 4 dynamos plus cylinder cocks, grade crossing signal, blowdown, brake squeal/release, coupling/uncoupling, and water stop - all in 16-bit polyphonic sound.
Bring the mighty EM-1 back to life with Bachmann Spectrum® in N Scale!
