Developing the Concealed Draw:
Being able to present the pistol in personal protection is the crucial skill for the armed citizen. Fundamentals and developing a repeatable, efficient, and accurate draw stroke was the focus of this block of instruction. How distance and target size change the arc of readiness during a self defense encounter. A holster was required in class. A portion of this block was dry practice and the rest was drawing from the holster.
The Mingle 2019 Qualification Course
Derived from the Los Angeles Police Department Retired Officer Qualification Course
TARGET: USPSA Metric with face label – 50 possible points Ammunition: 10 rounds in two magazines of 5 rounds each
STRING I STARTING POINT: 7 YARD LINE Start with handgun loaded with 5 rounds only. On command the shooter will draw and fire 1 round to the body. Upon completing String I, the shooter will come to Low Ready, aimed below the target, remove the Support Hand from the handgun and take a Dominant Hand shooting stance.
STRING II STARTING POINT: 7 YARD LINE On command, the shooter will VERBALLY CONFRONT the target and then fire 2 rounds to the body, Dominant Hand Only. Upon completing String II, the shooter will holster the loaded handgun, without reloading.
STRING III STARTING POINT: 7 YARD LINE On command the shooter will fire 2 rounds to the body, reload and then fire 1 round to the head. Upon completing String III, the shooter will come to Low Ready, aimed below the target.
STRING IV STARTING POINT: 7 YARD LINE On command, the shooter will VERBALLY CONFRONT the target and then fire 4 rounds to the body.
ALL 24 shooters PASSED the qual and 6 shooters passed with 100% accuracy! It was an AWESOME day!
