When I was a sophomore in college, I met an older man at a church service, who was leading what you might call a prayer meeting. I found this meeting to be quite interesting and found myself chatting with him at the end of the service. After a time of chatting, he ended up inviting me over to his house for some tacos. As a man, who greatly enjoys a quality taco, I’m not sure “no” was even a word I knew at that moment.

One taco night led to two. Two led to three. And after some time, we had been eating tacos together on a nearly weekly basis for three years. Lots of things changed during that period of time, but one thing stayed the same. The tacos. Just kidding. It was prayer and fellowship.

As a barely twenty-something, my thoughts about life and theology were changing by the day. My older friend also had been through a number of life-altering seasons that took him down avenues quite different from my own. But the differences did not deter us from loving one another, as brothers in the family of Christ.

Last week, we had a good, old-fashioned church picnic. It was very impactful to our family. For one, my wife and I got to spend a good deal of time talking to folks we don’t always get to see.

Additionally, my son discovered what a water fountain was, which made him very happy. I think there is something very sacred about dining together.

Sunday, we’ll unpack just how subversive Table Fellowship really is in a culture, where enemies are more common than family.

Our Picnic and Praise was an amazing event! It was wonderful to be together! Thank you to everyone who came and to everyone who made this event happen! We are looking forward to doing it again in the future!
