March is Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month

Turn on a faucet. Wash your hands. Fill a glass of water. These simple actions take seconds, yet for millions of people, they require hours of walking, carrying, and uncertainty. This month is a reminder that access to safe water and sanitation is not a luxury; it is essential to health, safety, and human dignity.

But awareness alone is not enough. This is a call to action.

Support a water project. Advocate for sanitation solutions in underserved areas. Volunteer your time. Share information about hygiene practices that prevent disease. Invite others to learn how clean water transforms communities. When we act, we move beyond sympathy and create real change.

Every well-installed, every filtration system deployed, and every hygiene lesson taught helps prevent illness, keeps children in school, and allows families to focus on building better futures. Sustainable solutions don’t just meet immediate needs; they create stability for generations.

Rotarians are doers. We see a need and respond with purpose, partnership, and compassion. This month, choose one way to create a lasting impact. One action can ripple outward and change countless lives.

Clean water saves lives. Sanitation protects communities. Hygiene promotes health.

Providing Clean Water

Skip to main content Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.
