Rotary’s “Community Economic Development” Month in October highlights the importance of strengthening communities by investing in people and their livelihoods, promoting entrepreneurship, and developing local economies through vocational training, microcredit, and leadership development.
The overall Rotary International theme for the 2025–2026 year is “Unite for Good”, emphasizing collaboration to foster sustainable economic growth and a better quality of life in underserved communities.
Rotary clubs carry out these initiatives by applying for grants through their district and/or Rotary International, or by using local fundraising methods to acquire the necessary funds.
Examples include: Local and regional Rotary clubs and districts running their own projects to address specific community needs, such as entrepreneurship training, financial literacy workshops, or community leadership development.
A Rotary club is distributing electric sewing machines and providing free training to empower local youth with valuable vocational skills.
A microfinance initiative establishing a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) to provide affordable credit to local entrepreneurs.
A Rotary club partnering with a local microlender to improve access to financial services and mobile banking in a developing community.
How will your club contribute to this theme?
This October, consider what steps your club can take—whether through service projects, fundraising, grant applications, or partnerships—to strengthen community economic development locally or abroad.
Have a great Rotary week, friends! 💙🌀
