Rotary Alumni Associations are organized groups chartered by Rotary for people who have participated in programs such as Interact, Rotaract, RYLA, Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Scholarships, and Rotary Peace Fellowships. The alumni associations maintain connections between these former program participants and Rotary. There are about 80 chartered associations in 30 countries.
The District 6970 Rotary Alumni Association has been very capably Chaired for many years by Past District Governor Bill Hill, and is made up of over 100 individuals.
According to the District 6970 Alumni Association Constitution, the purpose of the group is:
- To establish and maintain a common bond among Rotary alumni
- To enable alumni to network with one another and with Rotarians
- To provide alumni, opportunities for involvement in Rotary service
- To facilitate alumni membership in Rotary and Rotaract Clubs
Alumni Associations have been described as a way to help bring people who have had life-changing experiences in Rotary’s youth programs back into the active Rotary family.
Clubs should consider inviting alumni to speak at club meetings as well as invite them to take part in club activities, service, and hands-on projects.
PDG Bill has indicated that he is ready to pass on the Chair responsibility to new leadership. Please give some consideration to this important avenue of service, and let me know of your interest.
