Maui Wildfires - Rotary Responds

This past week we all were heartbroken over the devastation in western Maui and the utter destruction of the historic town of Lahaina.

Maui is one of the beautiful places on Earth and a particular favorite of mine. Many of us have had the pleasure of visiting and hold wonderful memories of the experience.

It is beyond difficult to imagine that what we remember is now gone. And beyond the physical destruction, we now learn that the loss of human life has reached historic proportions.

Our Rotarian sisters and brothers in Hawai'i have mobilized quickly to respond in Rotarian fashion.

We will keep you informed as we learn more about the situation and various ways we can help.

Please consider making a donation directly to Rotary District 5000.

Assistant Governor - Area 1

(Gainesville, Downtown Gainesville, Greater Gainesville, Gainesville Sunrise, Lake Butler)

RC Downtown Gainesville

Past President

Rotarian 9 Years

HI!  I am a long time resident of Florida; my dad was transferred to Gainesville from New York in 1956 and I have spent most of my life in Gainesville.   Very blessed to have two sons, both of whom are in law enforcement and three teenage grandsons.

In my work life, I switched gears in my mid 30’s and left the secretarial world to embark on a new career in a health related field called Cardiovascular Technology at SantaFe College.  After completion of the Program, I was recruited to teach in the Invasive Cardiology component of the program.  I happily taught for the next 20 years.  Since retiring, my non-Rotary time is spent in volunteering and traveling whenever possible.

I did not know much about Rotary until I met my present husband Bob.  After attending my first Rotary Int’l convention in Lisbon, Portugal, I was hooked.  I have been a Rotarian since 2015 and have served in all positions.

My Presidential year was during the 2019-20 COVID years and although ZOOMING my meetings wasn’t quite what I had expected,  we didn’t lose any members, so it worked out okay.

My proudest Rotarian moment was to participate in a National Immunization Day (NID) in India in 2016…a truly  humbling, awesome experience.  As the AG for Area 1 this year, I look forward to sharing my love of Rotary with my area Presidents and help them have a great year, as we all work to Create Hope in the World.
