THE MINUTARIAN

Disease Prevention and Treatment Month

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month in the Rotary Calendar.

Rotary.org describes the Disease Prevention focus this way;

"Rotarians believe good health care is everyone’s right. Yet 400 million people in the world can’t afford or don’t have access to basic health care.

Disease results in misery, pain, and poverty for millions of people worldwide. That’s why treating and preventing disease is so important to us. We lead efforts both large and small. We set up temporary clinics, blood donation centers, and training facilities in underserved communities struggling with outbreaks and health care access. We design and build infrastructure that allows doctors, patients, and governments to work together.

Our members combat diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and polio. Prevention is important, which is why we also focus on health education and bringing people routine hearing, vision, and dental care."

As we approach the end of 2023, I would ask each of you to consider making a gift, of any amount, to the Rotary Foundation. Your generosity will have a profound impact on many. Likely, people who you will never meet, but whose lives you will change just the same.

I'd also like to offer best wishes and hopes for a blessed holiday season in whatever manner and tradition you and your family celebrate.

D6970 Rotarians decorated Rose Parade Float

In response to the Minutarian item on the 2024 Rose Parade I received the following from Rotarian Jimbo Skiles, RC Downtown Gainesville -

"Greetings John,

Trust you had a joyful Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing the theme for this year's Rose Parade. My wife and I had the privilege of decorating the Rotary float 2 years ago. It was a wonderful experience and one that is open to any interested Rotarian.

There is a lot more to the story and I have put together a presentation to share with any club that would like to hear more about Rotary’s involvement and how one can participate in decorating our float and viewing the parade.

Cheers,

Jim “Jimbo” Skiles"

Rotarian Jimbo can be reached at [email protected] to arrange an interesting and unique club program.
