Cuisine | Granita, Sorbetto et al...A Brief History of Italy's Ices

Whether it's Sicilian breakfast granita, or Roman grattachecca to be enjoyed walking through the cobbled alleys of the Eternal City, or cremolata for avid fruit-lovers, or a refreshing sorbet to finish a fine meal, traditional Italian iced confectionery specialties are cornerstones of Italian summer foods.

To be savored on a walk or as dessert at the end of a meal, Italians choose them as long as well-made and with fresh ingredients. From the Arab sherbet to the grattachecca kiosks, we retraced the history of recipes, suitable for the most torrid hours but to be equally enjoyed in winter, as a fresh and regenerating meal ending after a sumptuous dinner.  (Gambero Rosso)

History | NY | Legacy Brand | Brown Harris Stevens
As New York City's legacy brand, Brown Harris Stevens was founded in 1873, the same year Central Park was completed.  Just five years later, Manhattan's first elevated railway-the "El"-began service.

This photograph by noted photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt published in Life Magazine was taken in Manhattan in the 1940's and shows a woman in classic fashions of the era with the "El" in the background.

As many restaurants in New York City have reopened for outdoor dining, diners are pleased to return to their neighborhood favorites.  The New York City Department of Transportation has provided this interactive map to advise which restaurants offer outdoor dining.

When the neighborhood is Manhattan's Lenox Hill, one neighborhood favorite is Daniel, Chef Daniel Boulud's flagship French restaurant with three Michelin stars. The chef has opened The Terrace with 10 tables offering fine dining "au casual."

For those still honing their home chef skills, the chef offers his recipe for Frisée Lyonnaise, a classic salad dish perfect for warm weather.
Recipe | DC | Chef at Home | José Andrés's Tortilla al Estilo Route 11

When not busy working to help communities and restaurants with his philanthropic enterprise World Central Kitchen, José Andrés has been overseeing the reopening of his restaurants, including his flagship Spanish tapas restaurant Jaleo in Washington, DC's Penn Quarter.

For the home chef, José Andrés offers his recipe for Tortilla al Estilo Route 11, inspired by his mentor's omelette at the groundbreaking El Bulli. Ferran Adrià's recipe calls for potato chips. José Andrés's recipe calls for potato chips from local Virginia producer Route 11.
