How can the practices of EMDR therapy and mindfulness meditation, with its focus on mental contents, mental states, body sensations and breath promote the development of heightened states of consciousness, transform suffering and open up those places where we so often get stuck with our most challenging clients?
|
|
Don't miss this unique experiential adventure that will seek to explore what mindfulness practice can teach us about EMDR and what EMDR can teach us about the practice of mindfulness. Learn more about EMDR from the ancient art of meditation. And, learn more about mindfulness meditation from the art of leading clients into states of dual attention as is inherent in EMDR therapy. Learn to recognize the occasional spontaneous appearance of higher states of consciousness in EMDR therapy as well as in the practice of mindfulness meditation. Take part in a profound exploration that can raise your self awareness and allow you to experience the power of mindfulness practices by a lifelong meditator in order to better support those affected by trauma.

What's in the workshop?
The workshop will explore similarities and differences between mindfulness and EMDR therapy. Participants will come to understand more about EMDR from mindfulness and more about mindfulness from EMDR! The workshop explores these understandings through lecture, case illustrations and experiential practices.

|
How will these teachings enhance my EMDR practice?
Alan Watts wrote that mindfulness (awareness with equanimity), “is neither a philosophy nor a religion, but something more nearly resembling psychotherapy.”
This workshop is designed to explore these two practices, how their applications can lead to changes in mental states and personality traits. EMDR and mindfulness practice are intended to eliminate human suffering. While EMDR therapy seeks to relieve extraordinary suffering, mindfulness practice seeks to relieve everyday, mundane suffering. These practices complement each other in the goal of relieving all human suffering. The workshop will explore how these practices can help promote the development of higher waves of human consciousness. Participants will be invited to consider client profiles suggesting referral for EMDR therapy, mindfulness training, or both. Finally, the benefits of mindfulness training for the life and work of a therapist will be discussed.

"Your presentation was stimulating and deeply appreciated. I found it to be a real invitation to reflect more upon the processes that promote change, the influence of mindfulness in my psychotherapy practice, and when I choose to introduce the use of EMDR (or not). I especially appreciated the consideration of western and eastern concepts of developmental stages; thought provoking at any time but especially at this particular moment when one longs for leadership informed by a deeper wisdom.
You summarized and compared the similarities and differences in these two methods of inquiry in a very organized and efficient manner that could engage therapists with a wide range of experience with meditation and EMDR. Thanks for sharing your work!"
