The Missio Update - Christmas Edition
A Note from President Frank James
We are entering the busiest time of year between Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. It is a time for reflection on the blessings we have received as well as making resolutions for 2023. We remember the birth of Jesus and the Gospel announcement that the King is born and the Kingdom of God has come. In a deeply troubled world we need to remember that God is on a mission of love to fully redeem this world--and his good purposes will be accomplished.
In this season of remembrance, reflection and resolution, please join with Missio Seminary as we seek to prepare pastors, missionaries, and counselors who will engage this troubled world with the message of the birth of the King and the coming of his Kingdom. We need your prayers and your financial support as we seek to live out the Gospel in 2023.
Frank A. James III, DPhil, PhD
President and Professor of Historical Theology

Sharing the Gift of Jesus to the Ends of the Earth
We want to share the gift of Jesus and the Gospel with everyone around the world and we can only do that with your generosity.
Your financial gifts ensure we continue to offer the highest quality education, taught by well-credentialed professors, to students who have a strong desire and deep passion to take Jesus to the ends of the earth.
When you give this season, we will gift to you a copy of Professor Steve Taylor's article, "Suffering and the Mission of God". In his article, Dr. Taylor wrestles with this age-old question, "How does a Christian live with the tragedy of human suffering?" Taylor opens with the story of a women enduring the trials of a debilitating disease that keeps her from living out her life as she had hoped. Some of us have similar stories and All of us are familiar with stories of suffering, with varying degrees of intimacy.
As the Christmas season approaches, we reflect, celebrate, and receive the greatest gift, Christ, who suffers on mission and is triumphant. He has given us the mission to go and make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19). Professor Taylor defines this missional hermeneutic for all of us as ”the infinite expansion of God’s loving community – the community of the Trinity – throughout the universe by means of image-bearers, of creatures who are moral or morally capable of receiving, celebrating, reflecting back, and extending God’s love.”
During the month of December we are pleased to gift you a copy of this insightful, thoughtful and stimulating article for your generous gift.

Breakfast with Missio Highlights
God has blessed our Breakfast with Missio (BWM)! Dozens of friends of the Seminary joined us for our bi-monthly BWM gathering in the Souderton area. President Frank James, Missio faculty, and an alum offered 8 weeks of interactive, in-person study of God's Word. Bergey's Electric sponsored each event with a free continental breakfast which allowed everyone in attendance to fellowship with food, fun and learning. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this a tremendous series.

Dr. David Lamb Releases New Book
InterVarsity Press released the latest book from Professor David Lamb, The Emotions of God: Making Sense of a God Who Hates, Weeps, and Loves. In this book, Dr. Lamb explores the Bible being full of stories where God expresses deep emotion, yet Christians are often left wondering how to reconcile the tension of an all-powerful God who seemingly expresses uncontrollable feelings.

Don't miss Dr. Lamb promoting this widely read book..make sure you are connected with Missio Seminary on social media (facebook and twitter) and we will keep you informed of his promotional and media events!

A Visit to the Tabernacle
On November 16, Dr. David Lamb and his Exodus class visited a model of the Tabernacle at the Biblical Tabernacle Experience in Lancaster. It was an awesome experience to be able to visualize how God decided to display His presence to His people while they wandered in the wilderness. It was definitely a highlight for everyone who participated.

Supporting the Gospel in Philadelphia
We believe in supporting all things Jesus in Philadelphia and beyond. Recently our Director of Events and Communications, Nicole Showell, attended an event hosted by the Philadelphia Gospel Movement, where she and Executive Director, Rev. Terry Davis, were able to discuss awakening the church and the people in the city.

Missio Gives More than Degrees
A beautiful story of love over the Bible
Wayne and Jill Davidson met at BTS in 1978, in the seminary’s “early years”, when they were both MDiv students. Jill tutored Wayne with his Hebrew assignments in O. T. Poets which began a friendship that soon moved into a dating relationship and marriage in 1979 after Wayne’s graduation. Jill was one of the first women at the seminary and graduated in 1980. They have been married 43 years and in this time their loving family expanded to include three children and six grandchildren. We celebrate Wayne Davidson and his lovely wife, Jill, and their beautiful family!
Congratulations on 43 years and we are blessed that God used Missio to unite these two for His Kingdom!
