A Note from President Frank James

This past year has had its share of adjustments and adaptations. Heraclitus was right: “the only constant in life is change.” We have survived the pandemic (so far), the sudden shift to online classes and now we are gearing up for hybrid classes in the fall. We also have seen God moving and growing Missio so we can be prepared for what's to come.
We welcomed Dr. Chad Hinson and Dr. Clarence Wright as Assistant Professors, Wendy Walters as our Director of Strategic Relations, Dr. Colleen Willenbring to serve as our new Registrar/Director of Academic Services, and Dr. Todd Mangum is returning as Academic Dean. After thoughtful review of our organizational structure, we decided to divide the roles of the Dean of the Faculty and the Academic Dean. Dr. David Lamb will continue to serve as Dean of the Faculty and Dr. Mangum will take up the responsibilities of the Academic Office, focusing on accreditation, curriculum development, overseeing certificate and diploma programs as well as the hybrid/online programs.
We ask for your continued prayers as the Lord leads and guides Missio Seminary as the first choice for seminary training.
May God bless you.

As a part of our 50th anniversary celebration, we gathered via Zoom in April to celebrate, honor and thank our first graduating class and communicate our excitement for the future.
All in attendance felt the powerful impact of this class along with the founding faculty and their spouses. Their faith, sacrifice and commitment to Jesus and His mission began the legacy at Missio we are enjoying now and into the future. These courageous men and women continue to be spiritual pillars in our Missio community with the strong foundation of faith and labor that they helped establish.

Sung Ja Shinn holds many prestigious titles, but the one that we would like to celebrate during our 50th Anniversary is Member of the First Graduating Class of Biblical/Missio Seminary! As the only female and foreign student in her class and at Biblical, Sung Ja exuded faith and courage. Though Missio was not accredited at the time of her studies, she trusted in the Lord for her Visa status to not be questioned or challenged, and the Lord provided. Because there was no on-campus housing, Sung Ja lived 15 minutes from the school without a vehicle, but the Lord provided a ride from a classmate every day.
Sung Ja has extremely fond memories of Missio. She recalls the solid and sound teachings from her favorite professor, Rev. Robert Dunzweiler and how Missio prepared her to teach at the largest theological college and seminary in Korea for 33 years. After retiring from Chong Shin University in 2008, she moved to Cape Town, South Africa as a missionary and founded Cape Town Biblical College in 2009. We are grateful and blessed by Sung Ja’s amazing story of following Jesus into the world and around the world!

The latest edition is now available.
Volume 7 Issue 1 is dedicated to the theme of #churchtoo. Abuse of power and leadership failures may be nothing new in churches, but that doesn’t take away from its horror or devastation. In our day, especially in the wake of #metoo movement, revelations of abuse by those entrusted with power in all spheres of our culture have also drawn many secrets hiding in churches out into the open. We are living through a time of reckoning for the church.
