The Missio Update
June 29, 2022
A Note from President Frank James
As we read the headlines or watch “breaking news,” we are aware that the world is more troubled than ever. War, political division, racial tension and Covid have contributed to this unprecedented state of affairs. One of the consequences is that churches have declining attendance. For the first time in modern history, Gallup reports that regular church attendance has declined to 27% of Americans. In this moment in history, I believe that Missio is more important than ever. We exist to serve the church--even when the church is in crisis. Missio is determined to be faithful to our calling in spite of the challenges.

On June 4th we celebrated our 51st commencement ceremony with 83 graduates and one honorary doctorate. This is a sign of our continued commitment and faithfulness, but more important, it demonstrates God's faithfulness to Missio Seminary. I hope you will enjoy the below videos to experience a true movement of God.

Following Christ and furthering His Kingdom is the most important thing for us and your shared passion has been a deep encouragement.

REALChange Campaign Ends June 30!
God has called us to respond boldly and courageously. A New Home… A New Name… REALChange

Our Five Year Campaign will end in only one day and your support will help us successfully complete funding for Technology and Operations that supports our faithful students.
REALNeed: “Barna research has unpacked faith trends in the U.S. including a general reluctance to engage in spiritual conversations, an aversion to evangelism and the erosion of religious belief and practice. These stories and more continue to point to an increasingly secularized nation made up of increasingly secularized cities.” Philadelphia and the northeast corridor are not immune.
REALImpact: Since our founding in 1971, we have more than 2,300 graduates serving around the globe as pastors, teachers, counselors, nonprofit ministry leaders, and in many other capacities.
REALPlans: Missio is committed to enriching learning opportunities for all of our students by: • Strengthening our technology infrastructure to allow for remote teaching and learning • Augmenting our library to expand the research capabilities for students and faculty, providing access to more than 600,000 e-books, 21,000 journals, and 60 million journal articles by joining the Digital Theological Library
REALVision: Our growing family of seminary donors and graduates have already contributed gifts that have made it possible to: • Transition to a new home with a new name • Launch the highly successful PULPIT initiative • Launch a new Diploma in Biblical and Missional Theology program
REALReach: We are committed to reaching as many hearts and souls as possible: • Broadcast thirteen webinars with over 16,000 viewers, equipping ministry leaders with tools to face today’s challenges • Provide more student aid opportunities through both outright and endowed scholarships
REALResults:
• Supplemented our resident faculty with two additional professors in practical theology • Expanded our affiliate faculty and PULPIT Cohort Leaders
REALSupport: The seminary works hard to raise support to fund the day-to-day costs not covered by tuition. These expenses include faculty and staff salaries, high tech and high touch library resources, administrative hardware and software expenses, and the costs related to maintaining a campus of excellence.

As you consider donating to the REALChange campaign, we recognize that donor participation comes in a variety of ways, including prayers, student referrals, and student sponsorships. We are truly blessed by and thank you for all you do.
