Join Missio Seminary in Celebrating 50 Years
September 28, 2021
A Note from President Frank James
The school year is off and running. We had over 70 students participate in our New Student Orientation in August, with approximately 20 new students enrolled in our Diploma program. I continue to be inspired and encouraged by our staff, faculty, alum, students, and supporters who continue to serve and work hard to share the good news about Missio Seminary.

We are in the midst of planning another of our Courageous Conversations, this one is called: Faith and the Justice System. This discussion will look at the relationships between urban communities and police officers, and the role we can all play to create flourishing communities in our cities. We have an outstanding group of panelists: Dana ReddDamone JonesGabe Rodriguez, and Carl Day. They will speak truth in love and answer the hard questions that are on the minds and hearts of many.

Look for more information and an opportunity to register for this event in the October edition of the Missio Update.

Earlier this month, we took time to remember the catastrophic events of September 11, 2001. I vividly remember that day--I was working in my home office in Orlando, Florida. At first, I could not quite comprehend what had happened; I did not have the categories to imagine that this was a terrorist attack. As I reflected on 9/11, I was reminded that we all bear the wounds of this misbegotten world in one way or another. Let us continue to strive to live out the Gospel in our own lives, our ministries and through MISSIO.

Thank you for your continued prayers,

Frank A. James III, DPhil, PhD
President and Professor of Historical Theology

Missio on Mission...A Summer in Review
Spreading Some Good News
If you missed an episode of our limited summer series, Missio on Mission, enjoy the powerful highlights now. This recap shares powerful perspectives of the heart and soul of Missio Seminary.
We are pleased at Missio to train agents of the Spirit, proclaimers of the Gospel, all around the world. As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary, we think of the many students, over 2,000, that have walked the halls of BTS/Missio and are in many pockets of the world. Below, our students and alum share their stories.
A Letter from Kenya
-Sam and Ruth Gituka
Greetings in Christ’s name!! My name is Sam, a graduate from the Biblical seminary in the year 1985, married to Ruth and together we are blessed with 3 boys. I minister with Africa Inland Church founded by Africa Inland Mission. For the first ten years, from 1985-1995, I lectured at Moffat Bible College and subsequently moved to church ministry where I have been working as a pastor and administrator, co-ordinating several small churches to date.

In 1997, we commenced missions work among the Maasai community where we’ve managed to put up several churches under a Kenyan missionary assisted by Maasai elders, and from time to time we task groups of church members to assist the missionary to evangelise and build churches. My training at the Biblical seminary has been very helpful in my pastoral ministry, and most importantly, in expounding the Bible.

May God bless you as you train His men & women for the ministry.

In Christ service,
Sam

Missio alum, Kyunghwan Oh (오경환), has been elevated to the position of Full-time Assistant Professor at Chongshin University, the largest Christian University in Korea. Professor Oh will teach Christian Education and Christian Philosophy and worldview.

Kyunghwan started at Missio as a level 1 Advanced Cultural Studies student and completed his MDiv in 2015. When asked what he would like to share with our readers, his response was filled with humility and grace, "I am thankful for Missio's encouragement and I am hoping that some of the students will be encouraged and motivated because of God's miraculous work in me. I am grateful for what Missio has taught, for your humble and generous attitude to me, and I am always thankful and grateful for my Biblical (Missio) Seminary...I am proud to be an alum!"

Congratulations Kyunghwan; we celebrate you and this tremendous blessing and accomplishment!
