“pray without ceasing . . . for this is the will of God for you” 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

The longer I walk with Christ and serve in the ministry of Rescue the more I realize how desperately we need God. Apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5) but with Him who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Matthew 28:18-20; Hebrews 13:5), anything is possible (Matthew 19:26).

Over the last year I have thought a lot about a quote that I have shared with you before from Charles Bridges “Prayer is one half of our ministry and it gives to the other half all of its power and success.” My greatest longing for the rescue mission in 2020 is that we would be devoted to prayer, that we would obey the Scriptures and “pray without ceasing” because WE need God, our guests and disciples need God, because I need God.

John Bunyan said that “prayer is sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the heart or soul to God through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit, for such things as God has promised.” Would you commit to pour out your heart and soul to God on behalf of the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission this year?

A Prayer for 2020

Heavenly Father, You are worthy, O Lord, to receive blessing and honor and glory and power, for You have created all things, and for Your praise and by Your will they exist and were created. You have commanded us to pray always, and to keep alert with all perseverance. We confess our great need for You, apart from You we can do nothing, but with You all things are possible for nothing is too hard for You.

We pray for the Columbus & Living Water Rescue Mission. We ask that you would be glorified through the ministry to the men, women, and children that are served there. We long to see our guests come to the knowledge of You and to turn in faith and repentance and receive the salvation that is in Christ. We pray for the men and women in the New Life and Healing Heart programs, may they be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord and may their lives be transformed by renewing of their minds. We pray also for the Platte, Butler, Seward, Polk, and York County jails and for the York Women’s Prison and ask that you would anoint the mission staff and volunteers to preach the Gospel to the inmates in the power of Your Spirit and that the inmates would find their freedom in Christ. Your Word tells us to pray for our daily bread, so Father we pray for Your provision, apart from You moving upon the hearts of people to give to this ministry we cannot do what You have called us to but we know that You are with us and will not forsake us.

We thank you for Your abundant mercy and steadfast love. Truly our hope is in you; and on you we depend to be to us God Almighty, a God all-sufficient. Do for us far more abundantly than all that we are able to ask or think, according to the power at work within us and supply all our needs according to your riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Please Help Us Stay Warm

We have been experiencing problems with the old boiler heating system in the Columbus Rescue Mission for several years but this winter it has been a severe problem on several occasions. One morning, when we were experiencing sub-zero wind chills outside, the boiler went out. We had to use several electric space heaters to keep the building as warm as we could. It took over 36 hours to get the boiler going once again to restore the temperature to "normal" in the three story structure. We had received several amazing cash donations from our wonderful donors but we are still needing more funds to repair or replace the heating unit. If you wish to receive all of our View Spark clips (about once a month) please call the Columbus Rescue Mission at 402-563-1096 or the Living Water Rescue Mission at 402-362-0127.

Living Water Rescue Mission Enjoys Tremendous Support

The support from our local communities is a great blessing to those we serve. Food, clothing, hats, gloves, furniture, household goods, etc. are processed daily by our program participants, volunteers, and staff. Recently, Emmanuel Lutheran’s “2020 Vision Food Drive“ covered our dining room tables with their churches donations, (see photo). This kind of support regularly flows in our doors and out to those in need. Last year we delivered 173 emergency food boxes to families in our communities and we recorded the distribution of furniture, clothing, and household items nearly 1,000 times in 2019. This is in addition to services provided to our overnight guests and program participants daily.

Please consider supporting the ministries of the Living Water Rescue Mission with your financial assistance and gifts in kind.
Hebrews 13:16 “ And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

Would You Please Consider Volunteering at the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission?

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."  1 Peter 4:10

With busy lives it can be hard to find time to volunteer, however the benefits of volunteering can be enormous to you, your family, and the Rescue Missions
in Columbus & York. We are currently in need of evening chapel leaders – ½ hour a month or weekly blesses us greatly. We also have some nights available on our calendar to bring in an evening meal. On occasion we need people to drive guests to an appointment or job interview. We can always use painters and fixer-uppers. Finally, there is a need for translators for our Spanish speaking guests.

If you would like to be blessed and also be a blessing, please call Karen in Columbus at 402-563-1096 or LaVerna in York at 402-362-0127.

As we are a 501 c 3, we accept no state or federal assistance. Please consider Him as you consider helping us.
