Steelhead The guys who are nymphing are really hammering the fish right now in both rivers. People sticking to swinging flies are still catching fish but not the numbers the nymphers are. For your swinging flies go sparse and dark. Patterns like that seem to be getting the most attention form the fish.
Clark Fork Winter fishing is now if full swing on all of our local rivers. Nymping will produce the numbers when you find the fish. Eggs, Worms, and Rubber legs will be the ticket. Look for the softer water off the seams and go deep.
Winter Fishing at it's best
Bitterroot The Bitterroot is a great winter fishery. The numerous in river springs will hold the most fish. Find the warmer water to find the fish. Eggs, worms, micro mayfly, and rubber legs are the ticket. Streamers in Brown Trout colors have been producing some nice fish lately, Go low and slow on your retrieve. Don't make it too hard for them to eat it.
Rock Creek The creek is also a great winter fishing option. Nymping here will yield the best results. Worms, Rubber legs, Small mayfly stuff, and eggs will all bring fish to hand..
Blackfoot The Blackfoot is a bit colder than the rest of the rivers and the fish will show that in their effort to eat your bugs. Nymph deep for the best results. Same program as all the other water. Eggs, worms, rubber legs, and mayfly nymphs will get eats.
