All CPH Staff and Faculty "Stand Up" virtual meeting begins on Oct. 20th
|
We want to bring all CPH staff and faculty together for 15-25 minutes every other Wednesdays at 8:30am starting on October 20th for a college "Stand Up" meeting, to discuss important CPH updates and announcements that impact all of us as a college community.
A outlook invite will be sent out shortly for everyone to save accordingly. We look forward to your participation!

National Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month 2021 Meet and Greet Event

CPH is a co-sponsor at the upcoming Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month Meet & Greet event on Friday October 15th, 2021. Drop by anytime from 10am-1pm at Barker Plaza outside the Gatton Student Center on campus!

Alumni Spotlight - Ron Holder (MHA, '98)

Mr. Ron Holder is the COO at the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). With headquarters in Englewood, CO, MGMA helps create successful medical practices that delivers the highest-quality of patient care.
Ron recently received a C-Suite Award from the Denver Business Journal. In their recognition video, Ron talks about the value of "trust" for his organization.

ASPPH Accepting Nominations for the
2022 Teach & Research Excellence Awards
|
ASPPH is now accepting nominations for 2022 annual awards! The awards will be presented at the 2022 ASPPH Annual Meeting and present a unique opportunity to recognize and thank colleagues that have gone above and beyond in their roles in public health teaching, research, practice, community service, mentorship, and student services.
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, October 20th, 2021.

Dr. Ann Coker, Interim Director of the Center for Research on Violence Against Women and Biostatistics department faculty at CPH, received a grant award from the Office of Women’s Health at the US Health and Human Services. In this award, her team will examine the Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Corp as a mechanism to build capacity to reduce maternal injuries and deaths due to violence.
Dr. Meredith Duncan, Assistant Professor in the department of Biostatistics CPH, received a KL2 grant (Mentored Career Development Award) from the NIH. In her KL2, Dr. Duncan will be examining the impact of including markers of structural racism and social determinants of health in cardiovascular disease risk prediction to more accurately estimate risk in Hispanic, non-Hispanic Black, White-men and women.
Dr. Radmila "Rada" Choate, Research Assistant Professor in Epidemiology at CPH, has been selected for the UK Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (UK-ADRC) Research Education Component (REC) Scholar Training Program. The proposed project will research bridging the knowledge gap between lung health and brain health, and to improve the association between natural progression, severity of obstructive lung diseases, and cognitive impairment.
Dr. Ketrell McWhorter, Assistant Professor and Global Health Graduate Certificate Director, has received a new pilot grant award for the research project, "Impact of Secondhand Tobacco Smoke on Sleep and Cardiometabolic Health in a Rural Appalachian Pediatric Cohort." This will examine the relationship between secondhand tobacco smoke (SHS) exposure measured by serum cotinine and sleep as measured by duration, snoring frequency, and night awakenings in a rural Appalachian pediatric cohort.

Fire Prevention Week emphasizes need for smoke alarms in home
|
As most fatal fires occur in the home, the KIPRC's Residential Fire Injury Prevention (RFIP) program works to prevent deaths and injuries due to fire by increasing the number of Kentucky homes that have working smoke alarms.
