Victoria Garcia-Davis, representing the Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health department at the University of Kentucky's College of Public Health, is the Migrant Outreach Program Director and principal investigator (PI) for the Migrant Outreach Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) grant.

ASPPH Accepting Nominations for the
2022 Teach & Research Excellence Awards

Each year, the Association of School and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) recognizes individuals who exhibit excellence in public health teaching, research, practice, community service, mentorship and student services.
Nominations for 2022 awards are now being accepted. Deadline is October 20th, 2022!

This research seeks to better understand the HPV16 E6 antibodies as an early marker of human papillomavirus-driven oropharyngeal cancer (HPV-OPC) among men living with HIV who are a highest risk and to develop new methods of early detection for this rapidly increasing cancer.
|

|
This research will explore whether colon cancer patients, who are residents of Appalachian Kentucky or African America, are tested less often for microsatellite instability and mismatch repair (MSI/MMR) and to design interventions to address this possible disparity in care.
|
|
|

Gavin Rienne named to SEC Emerging Scholars |
Gavin Rienne, a graduate student in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Ph.D. program, has been named to the SEC Emerging Scholars. The program provides professional development and networking opportunities for current doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers who are considering careers in higher education.

Staff Council is now accepting nominations for CPH Staff Employee of the Year! Winners will be announced at the CPH Winter Assembly and will receive a plaque as well as monetary award.

HCCC Representation
The College of Public Health faculty have voted for representation to the Health Care College Council for the 2021-23 term. HCCC reviews all curricular proposals emanating from health care colleges and is a subcommittee of the University Senate. Congratulations to Rick Ingram (HMP) and Beth Lacy (EPI) for representing CPH!
Bylaws and Committee Structure
Work continues on updating the CPH bylaws and standing committee structure. In order for the Faculty Council and other groups to work on a final submission, the faculty voted to suspend Section 7 of the CPH bylaws (2016) and work within an interim committee structure. Updates coming soon!

KIPRC program continue to help with suicide prevention efforts |
Suicide is a leading cause of death in Kentucky. As we reflect back on September, which was National Suicide Prevention Month, it is a good opportunity to remind everyone that suicide is preventable.
