"Nationwide Analysis on Intentional Indoor and Outdoor Tanning: Prevalence and Correlates," Jerod Stapleton (HBS) is a co-author.
Abstract: Outdoor and indoor tanning are considered as risk factors for the development of skin cancer. The aims of this nationwide representative study were to quantify both behaviors in a sample with a wide age range, to identify those showing both behaviors and to explore and compare determinants of both behaviors.
"Deep Neural Networks for Fine-Grained Surveillance of Overdose Mortality - PubMed" Patrick Ward (EPI/BIO alum, '21) is first author, April Young (EEH) is second author, Svetla Slavova (BST) is a co-author.
Abstract: Surveillance of drug overdose deaths relies on death certificates for identification of the substances that caused death. Drugs and drug classes can be identified through the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) codes present on death certificates, however ICD-10 codes do not always provide high levels of specificity in drug identification. To achieve more fine-grained identification of substances on death certificate, the free-text cause of death section, completed by the medical certifier, must be analyzed.
"Global survival trends for brain tumours, by histology: analysis of individual records for 67,776 children diagnosed in 61 countries during 2000-2014 (CONCORD-3)," Thomas Tucker (EEH) is a co-author.
Abstract: Tumours of the central nervous system are among the leading causes of cancer-related death in children. Population-based cancer survival reflects the overall effectiveness of a health care system in managing cancer. Inequity in access to care world-wide may result in survival disparities.
"The Impact of Medicare Shared Savings Program Participation on Hospital Financial Performance: An Event-Study Analysis," Huang Huang (HMP) is first-author.
Abstract: To evaluate the impact of hospitals' participation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) on their financial performance. MSSP participation was associated with differential increases in net patient revenue, Medicare revenue, inpatient revenue share, and Medicare revenue share, and a differential reduction in allowance and discount rate.
"Visit-to-visit systolic blood pressure variability is associated with increased fatigue symptoms in multiple sclerosis patients," Min-Woong Sohn (HMP) is senior author.
Abstract: To evaluate the relationship between visit-to-visit systolic blood pressure variability (SBPv) and fatigue symptoms in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients. Data show that MS patients with higher SBP variability had a greater degree of fatigue. Future research is needed to further explore this relationship and the potential for therapeutic opportunities to improve fatigue.
