KIPRC-developed treatment locator expands to Tennessee, more states interested


FindHelpNow is a near-real-time substance use disorder treatment locator created by the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center (KIPRC). While the substance use disorder (SUD) treatment locator website started in Kentucky, Tennessee recently launched its own FindHelpNow website, and three other jurisdictions are in the process of joining.

National Public Health Week 2023 Starts in 2 weeks!


We are excited to celebrate National Public Health Week from April 3-7, 2023, with a series of fun and informative events, service activities, and more that promotes public health's passion, purpose, and pathway for a healthier life. All students, faculty, and staff on campus are invited. This year's theme is "Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health."

Dean Bush throws out first pitch at UK Baseball Game to lead off National Public Health Week


Join us at our CPH College Game Day event and cheer on our Dean Heather Bush, and our Cats, as she throws out the first pitch at the UK Baseball home game at Kentucky Proud Park on Sunday, April 2nd. UK students, faculty, and staff with a valid UK ID get in for FREE. Staff and faculty can also bring a guest for FREE.

Public Health Showcase 2023 Registration Deadline is March 27


The inaugural 2023 Public Health Showcase on April 10th, sponsored by CPH, is a unique opportunity for sharing innovative work in public health research, community practice, teaching, and workforce development. This event is open for EVERYONE. Event registration deadline is March 27th.


NOTE: Even if you have submitted an abstract, you still must register for the event.

CPH chooses Excellence Fund for One Day for UK on April 19


This year, on One Day for UK, on April 19th, we are asking for our community to support the College of Public Health Excellence Fund, which provides support into areas with the greatest need, making a big impact by strengthening every area of the college. On May 4th, CPH invites our faculty, staff, students, and special guests to the 2023 CPH Awards Night event, an opportunity to celebrate each other and recognize outstanding achievements. Nominations are currently open for Staff of the Year Award and Faculty Research Award, which are due by April 7th.

CPH 395 is accepting student applications


Many students begin their research with CPH 395: Undergraduate Independent Studies in Public Health. Students work one-on-one with a faculty member on a research project, with an opportunity to present at conference, co-author papers and more. We need your help in promoting and inviting students to apply. Deadline is March 24th. Contact Dr. Sarah Vos for additional questions and information.

2023 TCOM Conference Announcement! A New Deadline for Proposals



After receiving several requests from past presenters and participants, the TCOM conference planning committee extended the proposal submission deadline to March 31, 2023. Proposal submissions will be considered for 1-hour breakout sessions during the 2023 TCOM Conference that will take place on Thursday, October 5, and Friday, October 6, 2023. 

What (IPH) a Horse can be even more effective than a therapist?


A horse cannot become a licensed therapist in the same way that a human can. But the possibilities of a horse becoming a therapist are promising, given the positive outcomes of equine-assisted services. Dr. Kimberly I. Tumlin discusses how therapy incorporating horses is effective in treating a wide range of mental health issues.

Abstract: Reports of interventions to improve dental opioid prescribing have come primarily from academic settings, but most opioid prescriptions are written by community dentists. This analysis compares prescription characteristics between these two groups to inform interventions to improve dental opioid prescribing in community settings.

Abstract: Polypharmacy and inappropriate medications may be a modifiable risk factor for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). Medication therapy management (MTM) interventions may mitigate medication-induced cognitive dysfunction and delay onset of symptomatic impairment. The objective of the current study is to describe an MTM protocol for a patient-centered team intervention (pharmacist and non-pharmacist clinician) in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) directed at delaying the symptomatic onset of ADRD.
