KIPRC receives $2.2 million to evaluate Kentucky substance use disorder recovery program

The Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center (KIPRC), led by our own Terry Bunn, Ph.D., was recently awarded a $2.2 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to comprehensively evaluate the Kentucky Access to Recovery (KATR) program.  

'UK at the Half': UK SMRI researchers create new, jockey-specific concussion protocol

In this “UK at the Half, researchers including our own Kimberly Tumlin, Ph.D., with the University of Kentucky Sports Medicine Research Institute share how they are looking to support the safety of the jockey community by creating an all-new jockey-specific concussion protocol, known as “the Graham Test.”

CPH co-sponsors 2022 Al Smith Awards Dinner

CPH was excited to be a co-sponsor and join our local public health partners at the recent Al Smith Awards Dinner, which honored the late Al Smith who co-founded the Institute of Rural Journalism and Community Issue at the University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information. The event recognized journalism students' scholarships awardees and other awards for community organizations and newspapers for their public service work.

seeking student interns for Spring 2023 and Summer 2023. Virtual and paid positions are available. There is an application for students as well as a practicum catalog of opportunities. Deadline is December 2, 2022.

Abstract:

Social determinants of health (SDOH) play a critical role in the risk of harmful drug use. Examining SDOH as a means of differentiating populations with multiple co-occurring substance use disorders (SUDs) is particularly salient in the era of prevalent opioid and stimulant use known as the "Third Wave".

Abstract:

Women undergoing treatment for breast cancer require frequent clinic visits for maintenance of therapy. With COVID-19 causing health care disruptions, it is important to learn about how this population's access to health care has changed. This study compares self-reported health care utilization and changes in factors related to health care access among women treated at a cancer center in the mid-South US before and during the pandemic.
