SEASON'S GREETINGS !!
Dear Alumni and Friends of Monsignor Scanlan High School,
Here it is only the middle of November and our campus is covered in a blanket of beautiful pure white snow! It looks like a picture postcard from Currier and Ives. It is the perfect backdrop for the coming holiday season.
The Thanksgiving Holiday beckons and our students are hard at work with their academic studies and community service. The first quarter report cards have been distributed and the 2nd marking period is well underway.
Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive has been a grand success with almost 1000 items collected for the needy. The competition among Homerooms to bring in the most items was fierce! The winning Homeroom will be announced next week after the Thanksgiving Liturgy. A pizza party will be given to the lucky winners.
Operation Christmas Child asked each student to donate toys and small personal items for needy children in the Bronx. Our students responded by filling 50 boxes for the children.
Our STEM Program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is a partnership with Amazon and Edhesive to develop student understanding in computer science and coding. Monsignor Scanlan High School is only
one of 100 schools selected across the United States
to participate in this new educational venture.
On behalf of our administration, staff and students, I want to thank all of you for your generosity, prayers and good wishes. We cannot continue to improve without your great support.
May you have a Blessed Thanksgiving and "May the light of God's Christmas star be with you in this season of new birth" (Covenant House).
God Bless All Crusaders!!
Sincerely,
Peter Doran, Principal

PATHWAY PROGRAM
Thanks to the efforts of Scanlan Science Chairperson Jennifer Tulipano, Scanlan has been accepted into the Amazon Future Engineer Pathway STEM Program in partnership with Edhesive.
The STEM Program courses that are being offered at Scanlan in the 2018-2019 academic year are Introduction to Computer Coding and Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science.
This program helps students develop a foundational understanding in core computer science and programming concepts. This full-year course is designed to inspire students in computer science and develop their understanding of how technology and computer science can impact and shape our world. The students are encouraged to apply creative processes when developing computational artifacts and to think creatively while using computer software and other technology to explore questions that interest them. Our Scanlan students and their science teachers are excited to have the opportunity to participate in this advanced fully-funded program.

SCANLAN STUDENTS FUNDRAISE FOR THEIR INJURED CLASSMATE
A September 25th electrical fire in their Parkchester apartment resulted in the death of Neesha Anduze-Wilson, the mother of Scanlan freshman Syon Wilson. Syon and his father were critically injured in the blaze and were rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.
Scanlan students, faculty and staff came together to raise money for their classmate and family. $2,000 was raised from the sale of cupcakes and ice cream (see photo) and the National Honor Society donated $300. Preston High School generously made a donation as well and other individuals stepped up to pay for a new school uniform and a gaming system for Syon.
Syon - who has since returned to school - and his father, Shawn Wilson, continue to recover from their injuries.
We ask that you please keep Syon and his father in your prayers.
