Message from the Chair
From Dr. Catherine Spong:
I would like to take a moment to honor Alvin L. (Bud) Brekken, who passed away on October 13.

Dr. Brekken joined the faculty at UT Southwestern in 1978. Serving as the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Director for 13 years, Dr. Brekken made an immeasurable difference in the lives of our trainees and our faculty members.

He was truly an expert in our field and made better physicians of all who had the privilege of learning from or working with him.
Though he retired from UT Southwestern in 2001, his legacy lives on. Please join us in remembering Dr. Brekken.

Dr. Nelson named Division Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine
From Dr. David Nelson
"I am honored to work with the talented team in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine who are dedicated to providing high-quality patient care, training the next generation of healthcare providers, and advancing cutting-edge concepts to improve the well-being of patients and their children in the future."

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Nelson on this new role within our department!

Research Highlights
Dr. Kimberly Kho: Addressing childcare as a barrier to healthcare access through community partnerships in a large public health system
In our public health system, a survey of reproductive-aged women identified lack of childcare as the most common reason for missing or delaying healthcare. Community-based organizations in our county identified a similar need, so we partnered to develop a hospital-based childcare center for patients to use during appointments.

See our DFWChild Ad in Action!
We are running a full-page print ad in the October/November issue of DFWChild.

Since this publication's audience is prospective patients, we hope this ad increases brand awareness and patient volume.

The ad is showing to the right and can also be viewed in the digital version of the issue.

Three of our clinics are featured in the directory on page 47 and the ad can be seen on the coveted back cover spot of the publication.
