Peace River is Where We Begin:

A new approach to bringing our community together around the needs of students and families.

By Angie Matthiessen, Chief Executive Officer

The past six months have been a whirlwind of activity as the United Way Charlotte County (UWCC) team and board positioned themselves for an important next chapter of serving Charlotte County. I can’t think of a better time than our 60th anniversary for this to happen. Honestly, it has been a dream in the making for the better part of ten years. Alas, we are here: the launch of Charlotte County’s first Community School at Peace River Elementary.

A Community School brings people and resources together to support students, families, and staff at the school by connecting them to programs, services, and opportunities already available in our community. The goal is not to create more programs, but to better align existing resources with real needs. The gap is not services. The gap is coordination.

More Than Laundry: Community in Action

Another successful Pop-Up Laundry brought community partners together to help local families with a simple but meaningful need.

During the event, 41 households were served and an incredible 455 loads of laundry were washed.

But Pop-Up Laundry is about more than clean clothes. It creates an opportunity for families to connect with caring volunteers, access helpful resources and experience the support of a community working together.

We are so grateful to the many partner agencies and volunteers who helped make the day possible.

When we come together, an everyday task can become an opportunity for connection, dignity and support.

What an incredible evening at EMPOWER Her!

There is something powerful about bringing women together—not just to network, but to have real conversations, share experiences, encourage one another and make meaningful connections.

This year’s theme, The Power to Be YOU, came to life through three very different messages:

🌴 Jennifer Huber — Find Your Adventure

✨ Angie Matthiessen — Set Yourself Free

🐝 Claire Jubb & Emily Lewis — Bee Empowered

Each reminded us in her own way that empowerment can look different for every woman. Sometimes it’s trying something new. Sometimes it’s letting go of what is holding us back. And sometimes it’s recognizing the strength that comes from working together.

Thank you to everyone who joined Women United for this special evening and helped create a room filled with conversation, laughter, encouragement and connection.
