UK College of Public Health releases CATalyst Magazine Winter 2023 Edition


At CPH, everyone belongs here! CATalyst Winter 2023 Edition, the college's official magazine, is now released and dedicated to the memory and legacy of Dr. F. Douglas “Scutch” Scutchfield. Alyssa Hargis comes full circle with her degree in public health

It was a public health course that helped first-generation UK graduate Alyssa Hargis ('22) begin to understand how and why the health disparities she witnessed growing up develop and how they can be mitigated. Alyssa was also selected as a student speaker at the December 2022 UK Commencement Ceremony (full story).

The University of Kentucky recently conferred over 2,000 degrees, including CPH graduates, at the December 2022 Commencement Ceremony at Rupp Arena in downtown Lexington KY. This momentous event was livestreamed to the university's YouTube channel. Congratulations graduates!

Overcoming Barriers: Berea College Magazine

Berea College graduate, alum and part-time instructor at CPH, Dr. Dia J. Obonyo, along with her husband, have dedicated themselves to helping others overcome the barriers that hold them back from realizing their full potential.

Genes & Memories: UK Ph.D. student receives NIH award to study genetic impacts on dementia

Current M.D./Ph.D. student, Lincoln Shade, recently received a National Institutes of Health F30 fellowship award to study how genetic factors may increase the risk for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) furthering his years of dedication to searching for clues that may help solve the mystery of dementia, starting with his grandmother.

UK Researcher: Are Life Stressors Better Predictors of Plaque Buildup in Arteries Than Race?

With a two-year grant from the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science KL2 Career Development Program, Dr. Meredith Duncan is studying whether social determinants of health (SDOH)—the economic, social, environmental, and psychosocial factors that influence health—paint a more accurate picture of someone’s risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease than race.

IPH-C launches first live podcast "Connect the Dots: The Making of Meaningful Metrics"

The Center for Innovation in Population Health (IPH-C), housed at CPH, is launching their first live video podcast event series on YouTube called “Connect the Dots: The Making of Meaningful Metrics”, which will be an in-depth, and broadly accessible, exploration of innovative approaches for translating assessment data into meaningful metrics across the helping professions. The first live episode is launching on Tuesday, January 10th at 3pm (EST).
