The Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust’s Community Seafood Program (CSP) aims to feed our communities while uplifting local fishermen and seafood businesses. It’s a win-win initiative and we are excited to replicate this success during our third annual Week of Seafood Giving, thanks to a passionate donor who will match every gift up to $5,000! Running June 9th - 15th, the online campaign is a special opportunity to have an even larger community impact by providing double the funding for seafood purchases. 

The 2024 Impact Report is Out!

If you haven't had a chance to yet, check out our 2024 Impact Report! This past year was one of exciting growth for the Community Seafood Program, a memorable 10th Anniversary Celebration, and deepening community connections—all in support of a vibrant, resilient Monterey Bay fishing industry.

Our Get Hooked Dinner at the Monterey Beach Hotel is NEXT WEEK, Tuesday, June 10th, and is one you won't want to miss, so buy your tickets now!

The event will be held on the top floor, adjacent to their in-house restaurant, The Lantern Room, overlooking Del Monte beach and providing a spectacular sunset view of the Monterey Bay. Join us for local wines, passed appetizers, and a three course meal highlighting local seafood, and supporting the Community Seafood Program.

On June 7th, a breathtaking new documentary, Ocean, narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough, will be released. Through stunning underwater cinematography, the film is a powerful and captivating call to protect our ocean home. It’s one of the most compelling ocean documentaries of the past decade.

Sir Attenborough highlights many of the serious threats facing our oceans— including those caused by destructive fishing practices such as bottom trawling in sensitive areas and the unintended bycatch of marine mammals, turtles, sharks, and other species. These are real problems in many parts of the world, particularly where regulation is weak or enforcement is lacking.

There’s a way to feel good about eating seafood and being an ocean lover: BUY U.S. caught, and more importantly, BUY LOCAL.

The commercial fishermen operating out of California ports and the U.S. West Coast are leaders in sustainable fishing practices. They have to be, because here in the U.S. we have some of the most stringent fisheries laws in the world, robust enforcement, along with some of the best science which ensures healthy stocks and fishing levels.

Rockfish Brandade Fritter with Herb Aoili

We love Rockfish. It is one of our favorite fish, is bountifully available from the Monterey Bay’s sustainable fishery, and is so much fun to cook with. This recipe, courtesy of Chef Paul Corsentino of the Lantern Room at the Monterey Beach Hotel, is a unique (and insanely delicious) way to utilize rockfish’s versatility and bring out a great flavor profile. Make sure you start this one the day before so the fish can cure overnight!

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity we had to partner with Outstanding in the Field on the May 28th sold out dinner on Capitola Wharf! Thank you to Jim Denevan and his team  for coordinating an inspirational evening filled with delicious local seafood. We loved making so many new friends and are grateful for the outpouring of support for our Monterey Bay working waterfronts. We also extend a huge thanks  to our generous matching donor for the 2025 Week of Seafood Giving, and their dedication to equitable access to local seafood! Thank you to Other Brother Brewery in Seaside for holding a Pint Night on June 1st to benefit the Community Seafood Program, where attendees enjoyed locally sourced filet-o-fish sandwiches, tasty brews, and ocean art vendors!
