Celebrating and Supporting Conspirare's Song
New and longtime friends of Conspirare recently enjoyed an unforgettable evening of friendship, creative conversation, and song. Guest Artist Isaac Cates, a celebrated Gospel singer/composer from Kansas City, joined Craig Hella Johnson to sing, play piano, and delight the audience. After paella and signature cocktails, the concert began with a medley bridging "Shall We Gather at the River" to Bach's "Jesu, Son of Man's Desiring." The two performed duets of beloved songs of friendship like "Lean on Me" before showing their gifts as composers by each drawing a poem written earlier that night by Typewriter Rodeo and putting it to music. An unexpected peak of the night was an improvised operetta created on the spot based on audience suggestions. While "The Love Triangle of the Harvard-Educated Plumber" may not become part of Conspirare's repertoire, it was a hilarious reminder that creativity is available in every moment if we only allow it.
The event surpassed its $165,000 goal, a significant achievement as Conspirare works to make up the gap left by shifting city government funding. Co-hosts soprano Kathlene Ritch and broadcaster Elliott Forrest kept the audience laughing and giving. Several other Conspirare musicians were also present.
Thank you to our sponsors, vendors, the host committee (pictured below), and everyone who attended "Hidden Music: Between Friends" last week. See the full list of everyone who made Conspirare's annual fundraising event an unforgettable evening and financial success.
