Town launches municipal brand

On Sept. 1, the Town of Wasaga Beach officially launched its new municipal brand.

“This is an exciting day for our town. Our new brand highlights the natural beauty of our great community and provides a fresh new look. By solidifying a common vision, identity, and image, the town can better communicate and market itself. This is important in a world with so many competing messages,” Mayor Nina Bifolchi said.

The town started its rebranding exercise last year and council approved the new brand in July.

Our new icon is a free-flowing representation of our unique geography, as well as our open and friendly community. Water and green spaces enclose the shoreline, and together the shapes create the town’s initials W and B.

The colours are fresh and organic. As a whole, our icon is distinctly Wasaga Beach.

Our new tagline is ‘All in’ and this speaks to our great amenities, aspirations, and passion for where we live.

In celebration of our branding launch, we have installed a new billboard on town-owned land at the main beachfront. In addition, we have erected new street banners throughout the community. We are also introducing the brand on our website and social media platforms.

Over the next year, the town will fully implement the brand. This will include using it on our vehicles, buildings, and elsewhere.

For more information on the brand, please see our Q&A.

See the Visual Identity Guidelines.

“We’ve got something for everyone. It’s really going to be a terrific day for making memories with family and friends,” events and marketing assistant Chelsea Riddell said.

BRAVERY We had a special presentation Sept. 21! Resident Vic Stevens was recognized with a certificate for saving a 15-year-old female on Nottawasaga Bay. On Sept. 10, a teen was on a raft that was being blown away from land by an offshore breeze. Stevens used a kayak to reach the person and bring them to shore. Isaac Corbin, 11, Stevens's grandson, was also recognized for his efforts assisting with the rescue. Mayor Nina Bifolchi and Deputy Fire Chief Craig Williams recognized Stevens and his grandson for their efforts and thanked them for their bravery. Later the same day, local firefighters rescued three people involved in a similar incident.

REMEMBERING MAYOR BORTHWICK  It was a great morning at Mills Park outside town hall Sept. 21. BEACH BUILDERS Home Hardware was here, along with Grade 7 students from Birchview Dunes Elementary School, plus Tree Canada representatives and Town of Wasaga Beach staff, planting 13 new trees in memory of former mayor Walter Borthwick, who passed away in January. The event coincided with National Tree Day. Thanks to Tree Canada, Home Hardware corporate, and Beach Builders for making today possible. The students did a great job, too. It was great to have representatives of the Borthwick family here as well, including Mrs. Elaine Borthwick, Walter's wife. Mayor Nina Bifolchi was also on hand and gave students a tour of the council chamber. In the last 12 years, Beach Builders and community partners have planted 500 trees in the community.

GRAND OPENING On Sept. 24, members of council welcomed Booster Juice to Wasaga Beach. Booster Juice is at 1295 Mosley St. Thank you for investing in our community. Learn more about the business here: https://www.boosterjuice.com

BIRTHDAY On Sept. 24, on behalf of council and staff, Mayor Nina Bifolchi presented local resident Sandra Pollen with a certificate in recognition of her 80th birthday. Congratulations Sandra and best wishes.

RETIREMENT On Sept. 28, members of council and staff gathered at the Public Works building to celebrate the retirement of Giuliano Duni, our manager of beachfront properties and fleet. Duni has worked for the town for 27 years. For several years, he served as our operations manager in the Public Works Department. Duni is well respected within the organization and throughout the community. He will be greatly missed. Best of luck on the next phase of life, Giuliano!

EVERY CHILD MATTERS On Sept. 29 we hosted an 'Every Child Matters' flag raising ceremony and proclamation reading at the RecPlex in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30. We also unveiled our Every Child Matters commemorative carving, created by Jake Rhodes of Artistry in Wood. Randy Adamson of Adamson Tree Experts was also present. He provided arbor services preparing the tree for carving. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this very special and important event. Read the related proclamation: https://bit.ly/3Rwj46Y

The way we were...

LAVERNE DELL From the Historical Advisory Committee. The Laverne Dell Cabins and Apartments were located in Oakview Beach, on the beachfront. They were at the foot of Sunnidale Avenue, just east of the Sunnidale Apartments. The cabins and apartments were fully equipped for their guests’ comfort with electric stoves, iceboxes, running water in the cabins, inside conveniences in the apartment units, spring mattresses, dishes and basic furnishings. The Laverne Dell also had heating stoves in the cabins for use on cooler evenings. The cabins were located at the back of the apartment unit, giving the guests in the main building the best view of the beachfront. The Laverne Dell was located approximately two miles from Main Street and guests enjoyed a quieter vacation experience, but still had access to the other cottage/cabin courts that were nearby. The Dixie Inn was a short walk away and had a tearoom and a dance hall that guests could access. There were a number of shops on the beachfront, where one could rent a canoe, inflatables, purchase ice cream, confectionaries, pop and souvenirs of their time at the beach.
